markHi Guys,My custom long range rifle is under construction, I need to decide on some optics to go on it. Ive read all the posts I can find on sightron s3 both here, online and in Nathans books, Im over 40 now and my eye sight certainly isn't perfect, so I take it the sensible choice is the 6-24 LR MD. Though I'm not great with quick math, but I'm sure I could make a quick conversion chart until I get to grips with MOA turrets to Mil reticle. I wondered if the LRIRMOA would be worth the extra dollars for the sake of simple calculations and gain the illuminated reticle (does the IR reticle help with eyesight?) The sacrifice I suppose small amount more weight, extra cost, no turret covers. I had a look at a nightforce ATACR for a great price, it seemed the business but god is it heavy!! so that's definitely off the list. I understand the nxs is half a pound less than the ATACR but still half pound more than the S3. I see Sig Sauer have a fairly new range of LR scopes the Whiskey5 5-25 looks quite good, has anyone had experience with these yet? I know Vortex & Swaro arent favoured around here, I'm open to any advice, my new rifle will be for 40% LR competition and 60% open country LR hunting. |

Bob MavinRe: Sightron, night force, Sig Sauer optics??G'day MarkI like the S111. great scopes, the only problem I had was I kept bumping the turrets off zero while hunting, had to put my glasses on to check. I know use NXS with zero stop, love them, the turrets never move. Had I gone that way from the start I would have saved money instead of gradually climbing my way through all others. Spend the money, Cry once & it'll last a lifetime, the same with binoculars |

Bob MavinRe: Sightron, night force, Sig Sauer optics??Hi MarkI have the NXS 3.5-15x50 MOA zero stop on my 30-06, I only (but regularly) shoot to 700yds culling critters here in Australia. Excellent scope! I use the early model Bushnell 1600 RF bino's (opticaly better than the 1 mile ver) using it's hold overs have been accurate, with a bit of tinkering. Cheers Bob |
