Advertise with us

The TBR knowledge base is free to readers and we would be immensely grateful for your support via advertising.

When you align your business with the knowledge base, you are aligning yourself and your products with our ethics and willingness to help hunters, making a powerful statement. All too often, writers are forced to peddle words when creating articles, in an attempt to win over advertisers. In contrast, when you advertise with us, it displays great integrity and a willingness to stand behind your products and support your customers.

Cost of 4 banners displayed for one year: NZ $300
Approximate conversions at this time of writing: U.S $237 / EUR137 / CAN $234 /AU $233 / S.A 1,700 RAN.

We can either make a banner for you (free) or use your existing banner if you prefer.  You may also like to consider a text rich advert which gives more detailed, specific information regarding your business or company and its location.  If you have a website, the banner will be hyperlinked to your site.  If you do not have a website, the key focus will be on text, what you sell and how to contact you.

Ideally, if you would like to advertise, we would first create the advert and make it live (active on the site).  If you are happy with this initial advert and you wish to give us the go ahead, we will upload the remaining adverts and you will then be directed to make payment either privately or through our website.  Throughout this, you will be dealing with either Nathan or Stephanie, not a marketing or IT company.   As industry peers, we want to ensure that your adverts work and are matched where possible to applicable content.

To pay for advertising, you will be asked to visit the Shop tab to make payment (unless you have arranged private payment during email correspondence).

A letter to advertisers from Stephanie Foster:

Hello, my name is Stephanie Foster, I am sending your company this letter on behalf of our business Terminal Ballistics Research.   Terminal Ballistics Research is a business founded on my husband, Nathan Foster’s, passion and dedication to the accumulation and sharing of knowledge in all aspects of hunting and hunting cartridges.  Our website, ballisticstudies.com, is a free knowledge base with a large and continually growing international following.  The knowledge base can be viewed here:
http://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledge+Base.html
The intention of our website is to help hunters make informed decisions regarding the type of hunting they do versus the hunting cartridges they use.  Each cartridge is studied in detail and readers are given far more information than can be found in current books on this subject and competing websites.
To fund the knowledge base, we are looking for advertisers. The optimum method of delivery is to insert banner adverts within the content of the knowledge base.  Where possible, the adverts will be inserted amongst the most relevant information.  As an example, one of our advertisers, Reloaders Supplies, have their adverts located amongst the hand loading sections of the knowledge base. Another hypothetical example would be advertising the sales of the Nosler Partition in amongst the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser article below the paragraph in which Nathan strongly recommends the use of the 140 grain Partition as a means of optimizing the Swede.
The current pricing of advertising is NZ $300 for 4 banner adverts displayed for 1 year (NZ $5.77 per week).
Throughout this, you will be dealing with either myself or Nathan, not a marketing or IT company.   As industry peers, we want to ensure that your adverts work and are matched where possible to applicable content.
Payments can be made by credit card (paypal), direct credit, cheque or wire transfer.  An invoice will be emailed to your company so that the cost of advertising can be claimed at the end of your tax year.  Payments can be made weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.

Google goes anti gun

If you have a website and have been utilizing Google Adwords  for advertising (we have been with Google Adwords since 2007), you or your web hosting company may have noticed that google is now banning Keywords relevant to firearms and ammunition.  Here is a letter we received from Google recently:

Dear AdWords Advertiser,
We have reviewed your account and found that one or more of your ads or
keywords has been disapproved for violating the following AdWords
policy:

Firearms and Ammunition: Unacceptable Content: Google strongly believes
in the freedom of expression and therefore offers broad access to
content across the web without censoring search results. Please note
that the decisions we make concerning advertising in no way affect the
search results we deliver. Your ad has been suspended at this time.

AD TEXT:

Ad Status: Disapproved
Ad Issue(s): Firearms and Ammunition

AD TEXT:

Ad Status: Disapproved

Good luck understanding their explanation! Fortunately, Google is mostly unable to put controls on organic searches.  Therefore, websites like our own Ballisticstudies.com, which has an incredible volume of high ranking keywords, will continue to remain popular during searches.  Organic search results are heavily reliant on content pages and due to the fact that Ballisticstudies.com is a content based website, it is highly suited to organic searches.  Paid advertising programmes such as Google Adwords (in which you or your IT company provider pays Google to show your adverts) will be heavily effected by Google’s anti gun stance in the future.
As for our own experience with Google.  We initially planned to write a hard copy text book but with so much growth in the Internet, we decided that rather than publish a book, we would create an online knowledge base and utilize Google Adsense as our source of income.  Unlike a hard copy book, an online knowledge base is able to grow as new technologies emerge.  Unfortunately,  now that Google is banning firearms and ammunition related adverts, our plan to utilize Adsense is now completely defunct.
Yahoo is also currently adopting a ban on firearms and ammunition related advertising which effects the Yahoo and Bing search networks.

Why banner advertising on a content (articles) based website works

Instead of a traditional focus on the demographics (gender, age, income, etc.), banner ads let you narrow your target audience to people who have an acute intellectual interest in your product. You are using psychographic internet marketing savvy when you promote your website with a banner ad on a high-traffic website that has content related to whatever you sell. For instance, if you sell car parts, you may want to run banner ads on high-traffic sites where people browse to learn about automobiles. People visiting these sites are likely to have an interest in your products, so they are also likely to have an interest in visiting your site.

Who views our Website

Our website is viewed world wide.  Traffic is generally divided into those countries or continents with the greatest number of hunters.  Obviously, our primary traffic comes from the  U.S.A  due to the number of hunters and shooters (80 million gun owners) while New Zealand for example, produces less traffic due to its smaller number of hunters (250,000 gun owners).
Every day we receive emails asking for advice on particular rifles and loads.  Emails come from where ever the English language is spoken, including many countries throughout Europe where English is the second language.  Each email is answered in detail and due to this genuine interaction; we are often mentioned throughout the various online hunting forums.  We also endeavour to engage in online forums as time allows.
We are able to keep our visitors returning by continually updating the knowledge base.  Readers tend to save our site to their favorites tab and the majority of readers spend over an hour at a time, reading through the articles.  Informative content is the key to any website success and your adverts will receive relevant and prolonged exposure when matched with articles.

We want to help you

Due to the fact that our aim is be reliant on advertising as our main source of income, we want to ensure that you get the most out of advertising with us.  Not only will your adverts obtain excellent exposure, but if you find that you are swamped with emails from potential customers  asking for technical advice, why not forwards some of these time consuming queries on to us, let us help share your burden.   We will go through the whole technical or trouble shooting process with the client.  There are many businesses with emails backed up and managers dreading to open their inbox.  If you forwards an email to us regarding a topic that you feel we can cover- we will help.

Interested but not sure?

If you are interested in advertising with us but are not 100% sure, please reply so that we can start a more relevant dialogue.   We will be happy to make you a trial banner, put it on the site live and let you have a look and a think about it before you come back to us.  Rest assured, you won’t be given the hard sale.
By the way, if you have no interest in advertising, we would still like to hear from you if you just want to say hello and talk about hunting, rifles or ammunition.  Just be sure to mention that you aren’t interested in advertising so that we can avoid this topic during the course of discussion.
Yours sincerely,
Stephanie Foster
