I just found this article. Has anyone seen this before at the range?

Good news Warwick! The mysteries of the Coriolis effect are revealed in Nath's next book. It can be a very complicated subject but fortunately Nath has me! He has to keep chopping it down into manageable bites for me to get my head around it - once he has me understanding what the hell is going on he knows he's nailed it. Your welcome! lol

Re: THE "CORIOLIS EFFECT" THE EARTHS ROTATION
Hey thanks Steph. Yeah I got it all in my head and I picture a target on a huge spinning ball and I am sitting on the ball as well. When you fire at the target the bullet starts at the target in a straight line (ignore gravity for ease of explaining ) so the bullet travels straight and as it's doing that the target and I are moving sideways in opposit directions to the line of flight the bullets making. I wish I could draw a picture of what's happening lol. The real head spinning point is that as the target is moved from Northern axis to eastern or western and to any various point your shooting from to the target. The trigonometry of the equation changes lol. I can see that it is not an easy task to make it clear to understand using written words to describe the forces in play.! I'm thinking maybe a record player turntable spinning and get a marble and roll it across the turning turntable and seeing what happens? The marble will try to go in a straight line as the surface of the turntable rotates under it. Hopefully this will have confused everyone and Nathan will be cursing me aloud. I realize that the forces at play are more complex than my description due to the added effect of Gravity. I await the next book. I'm happy to be a test reader if you want someone else to test the text on. I guess it is similar to what NASA used to get the space craft to fly out to Pluto and be sure it was in the right place to say Cheese and take a picture of the target so to speak? Sorry Nathan. You can delete this post if you feel the need to. I don't let my ego get in the way of progress! Haha. Keep warm and dry. Warwick.

Re: THE "CORIOLIS EFFECT" THE EARTHS ROTATION
At the equator the ground is moving faster in space than at the pole. The circumference of the earth at the equator is much greater, so has to cover more distance in one revolution. As you go further north or south from the equator, the circumference is less and therefore has to cover less distance per revolution. As you shoot north or south, the differing speeds of the ground moving through space make the bullet appear to move left or right as the projectile is not bound to the earth. Shooting east or west rules this out as you are shooting over the same circumferential distance and "ground speed".
This is the same effect that causes weather systems to spin as they move away from the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) or the equator.

There many ways to skin a cat and am looking forward to see how Nathan skins this one.

Few...... Lucky l live in OZ!

I dial in, pick my shot placement, allow for environmentals and squezzzze. Simple man with a simple plan but things seem to fall over.

hahahahahahaa

Big can of worms, with spin drift thrown in for fun, lots of headaches for Nath & Steph for sure!

Shooting east or west causes the bullet to impact high/low. The Earth rotates from west to east so when shooting west your target will rise while the bullet is traveling the distance causing it to impact low. Shooting east your target will drop causing the bullet to impact high... :-)

I hope no one here thinks I r shooting is simple.I highly recommend Brian Litzs 'applied ballistics for long range shooting' , between that book and all of Nathan's info I don't think there is a lot left uncovered

Re: THE "CORIOLIS EFFECT" THE EARTHS ROTATION
There is a lot of info out there but I will say the following.

There is a great deal missing, I just cannot emphasize this enough. Its not just a gap, its the frikken Grand Canyon. And this gap cannot be filled with endless scientific discussions, tables and graphs. Those things, are the scientific building blocks which teach us the 'why's' of long range shooting. Such information is very important but you have to understand where it fits into the picture.

The simplest things can be the most difficult to understand. We have a million experts, but so few that have a grasp on the most basic principles. The how.

Hence why I am busting my balls to make this final book in the series something of real value. You could be a long range hunter, soldier or cop, I got lollies for all the kids.

I get a fire in my gut that I cannot describe to you all when ever the subject of precision shooting comes up. Then I have to write, that's why the books are received so well. Because I give a shit about what I teach you. This next book is going to piss a whole bunch of experts right off (eat me)- but its going to help lot of everyday people.

I was only having a laugh, anyone who knows me will attest how seriously I take my LR shooting!

Nathan's book will help sort out the wheat from the chaff!!!!!

Re: THE "CORIOLIS EFFECT" THE EARTHS ROTATION
That is so right Nathan - you dont always have to understand the why to master a tool... Go ask the carpenter if he can explane all the theories of trigonometry - he uses it every day... Dont think he can.

To day we are blessed with ipods, cellphones etc that run advanced ballistic programs. By having a very fundamental understanding on how coriolis effects the bullets path you should be home safe... It all comes down to "when to and how to" use this tool...

Re: THE "CORIOLIS EFFECT" THE EARTHS ROTATION
The simple truth is that you are shooting at a moving target. In effect. .................................
You're "Duck or Clay bird shooting" with a rifle in slow motion at long distance.
