75gr .257 non-frangeable projectile

Hi guys

I am after a 75gr .257 bullet for my 303-25 that doesn't blow up.
My load is doing 3200fps and I have been using 75gr vmax. I shot a fallow deer in the neck and the bullet didn't make It to the spine, it just exploded a 5" hole entry and no exit. The deer dropped on the spot but I am thinking a bullet that holds together and exits would be better suited for small/medium game. The 75gr shoots real well from my 303-25 so i'm not that keen in using 90gr gamekings etc. Any suggestions for a 75gr ?

cheers Ben

I use a 257 Bob with the 75 gr v max you were using. I can push them a little faster. They are instant death to coyotes but not fur friendly. I have never used them on deer. I would be interested in your findings on a less frangible bullet.

G'day Ben
A bit heavier pill will fix that mate. V-max are a volatile varmint projectile. I haven't looked but I think Nathan would have some info on his web site, Knowledge base.
Cheers

Hey Ben
Most .257 bullets under 85 gr. are designed for explosive results on varmints and small game although Barnes does make a 80 gr. TTSX that might fill the bill it also has a little higher BC than the V-max at .316 as compared to the V-max at .290. I'm just getting ready to start loading my first 25 bore so I have been researching. Bullet availability looks to be a big obstacle.
Good Luck

Re: 75gr .257 non-frangeable projectile
I have found I like to the 110-115gr projectiles in my 257 Roberts for whitetail deer. The gun is used primarily for deer under 200yds. To be honest, just about any bullet will work in the under 200yd situation for animals under 200lbs. Nathan wrote quite a bit about the 257 "Bob" and I have found it matches my observations. I have loaded the Bob with 75 gr V max for Coyotes. The results are spectacular under 200 yards.
