Bell & Carlson Long Range Hunter Stock for the Remington Model 700

Murray McGehan

Just looking at purchasing a stock for my Model 700 in 7mm STW. I would like opinions especially Nathans on the Bell & Carlson Long Range Hunter Stock with bedding block. Bare in mind as I am a southpaw who prefers shooting right hand action rifles left handed I would prefer an ambidextrous stock over one with a cheek piece.

Hi Murray, extremely sorry for the late reply. Somehow I missed this and no doubt it's too late for an answer now.

The B&C M40 stock is ambidextrous in that it does not have a cheek rest as per a true Monte Carlo stock. The comb is the only area that is similar.

If you are of medium height but slender build or are the type who is prone to lose condition due to a sedentary occupation, you will find that this recoils too much in 7mm STW due to the stock pitch and also the rectangular forend (slips from hand during recoil / especially during hot weather).

If you are of medium height but are of a strong build (naturally strong or forestry worker / engineering worker etc), you will find this stock to be perfectly adequate.

The modern Sendero (SFII) design is a true ambidextrous stock made by HS precision, fairly straight forwards and with a well shaped forend. Some folk find this to be a bit ugly but its functional.

Hopefully during February, Clive Judd will be announcing the availability of his own stocks. Its taken a long time to disassemble his original company (part ways with shareholders etc) and start over. Clive has been producing and selling his stocks one at a time for some months now. I have also now tested the stock up to 500 A-Square (mouth guard at the bench) and found the stock to be ultra tough. When he is ready, he will begin openly advertising availability, initially through this site (forum and / or an info page) at his own pace and without any formal agreements or monetary partnerships with myself. Clive's stocks are truly ambidextrous, have excellent functional qualities, are lighter than B&C or HS and (more by accident than design) are extremely handsome.

Again, my sincere apologies for being so late with this reply.

I do love my sendero 7mm rem mag. It is kitten to shoot compared to my weatherby vanguard .270. Strange i know,. That Monte Carlo kicks like a mule once the load gets hot and heavy. I am looking for a stock similar to the sendero for that weatherby. Please don't tell me that he has one for the Howa 1500 and make me ship it from NZ.... Can't find anything in canada non monte carlo.
