fire forming brass

i have just purchased brand new lapua brass for my 6.5x55 and i want to make sure i fire form it properly so just wanted to double check the best way forward and what I'm looking for when fire forming.
i haven't got trailboss yet but i was thinking maybe just doing small powder charges (just below book minumuim?) with cheap projectiles and use them for shooting position practice etc.
I'm using ar2209 powder.
are there projectiles that are better to use then others or just whatevers cheapest?
should i have the projectiles touching the lands with the reduced loads?

also would it make any difference if i started working up a load while fire forming cases or does this create any issues?

sorry i know this is covered in your books nathan but i have loaned them to a friend so can't read back thru them to check.

cheers

Re: fire forming brass
Hi Sebastian, if you want to do initial load work, go for it. Just keep in mind that you will need to do a second session to check differences between fresh and FF brass. The initial session can be used to establish a ball park.

For general FF work, 42gr 2209 will do fine with any cheap copper jacketed 140gr bullet (post edited due to potential scale variations).

You did not mention it but when Fireforming Brass always use only new brass older fired brass will split on you
good luck with your project I am currently working on a 6.5-06A1 and really enjoying it.
again good luck to you

are you necking 30/06 brass down to 6.5? if so how many stages are you going thru?

Re: fire forming brass
Hi Sebastian, it will form nicely at 42 grains (or more in a modern rifle). There is not really anything to watch for with these loads.
