Whats going on with powder $???

Thought l would have a vent in the new section!!!

Just went down the LGS to find ADI powder has had yet another 20% price rise!
It has nearly doubled here in 3 years.

I was warned by a great shop l deal with in Gippsland this would happen a few years ago when the wholesale distributer changed hands but this is crazy.
They cannot even blame the great southern price hike distributers love to charge us down here as it’s made a couple of hundred km’s from where l live.

And to really rub it in the same powder made here and sent to the US as H4895 is ½ the price over there, WTF?????

Bloody Hell.
Can expect it to go up in n.z too then I'm guessing.
Shipping is the hard part if you get a good price here, so really need to pick it up from your local store and just grab ya ancles and take it.

Marty, could you please clearly state the name of the new distributor here so that we can see who these sons of bitches are that are ripping off locals.

If you'd had your rant on the off topic forum, the dictator might have been able to offer some advice. He only posts off topic.

Re: Whats going on with powder $???
maybe fonterra brought out adi? think our milk prices are like that here. got to love monopoly's eh.

years ago i remember talking to an orchid grower.
he told me he sent his first grade orchid to one country and gets so much, but sends his second grade to another country and actually gets more for them. he would rather send his first grade ones to the customer paying more but then he would have no one wanting his second grade.
guess it all comes to what your competition can offer and for what price

Re: Whats going on with powder $???
As l said sorry wrong section!

Confirmed at the LGS 2x10% rises and now a 20% rise and all once the greedy fk's at Winchester Aust became the distributors.

$62 Aust is what we are now paying for 500grams of 2206H, about 10% more weight than your bottles John.
So with the conversion is about $84 US for powder that is made up the road and sent to you guys as Hodgon brand 4895.

Thales ADI have put up a permanent reply in their site stating, due to transporting cost here (dangerous good) and market demand, blah, blah and we DO NOT CONTROL local retail pricing.
Wholesalers wonder why we all buy what stuff we can from the US.

Just to rub it in further l also saw Woodleigh projectiles in the US lots cheaper than here. They also are made here in rural Victoria.

Go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2209 has gone up $10 to $75 for 500 grams at local store. How long does it last in storage?

Re: Whats going on with powder $???
Martin, I share your frustration. They are not encouraging us to buy Australian made products, are they? In response to ADI powder pricing, I bought 1kg of Vihtavouri powder for $110, so that was worthwhile for me, albeit only $7 less per 500g compared to your quoted price for the ASI stuff. I also bought some Reloader 22 which was less than what you were quoted for the ADI powder. Warwick, perhaps someone can chime in who knows more about she if life if powder, but I have stuff that is 10 or more years old and it works fine. I just store it in an old refrigerator to keep temperature from fluctuating rapidly.

Hi all
I buy powder when I have a few dollars to spare and vacuum pack my bottles/tins of powder and store them in a 40lt drum that has a clamp on lid, buried through the floor of my shed only 6" above the floor. I have some very old powder that still works great.

Re: Whats going on with powder $???
Does anyone know if this price rise a result of Winchester Aus looking to gouge or has it come from ADI increasing their wholesale prices? Does anyone think that a mass complaint emailing to ADI would be of benefit?

Re: Whats going on with powder $???
Not sure on shelf life, as Bob says keep the moisture/air out and I don't see why it won't last but l use mine to bloody quickly.......

I will be emailing both Thales & Winchester just to vent my frustrations Mike and l don't see how it could hurt if others do the same. I have contacted Thales a fair few times and always had excellent responses so l will not be rude or over the top.

Yes it does give start to thoughts of using other powders Buck. l have had such excellent results using our home grown stuff and that's probably what has got me going so much. Just sick of getting taken by greedy wholesalers I guess.

l will let everyone know how l get on.

Oh, l also vacuum seal my primers into 200 lots to stop any degradation.[b]

Re: Whats going on with powder $???
I am also uncertain of the reason behind the price hikes as well as the scarcity of powders in Canada. I do however take note that behind a great deal of this the so-called Safety industry has to be blamed. I say this because I recently tried to buy some powder from several online retailers (Cabelas Canada and Wholesale Sports) and found that to buy an 8 pound container of IMR 4350 would cost me $239 to have it shipped from Calgary Alberta. Their reason is the Canadian Federal Government has labelled it as dangerous goods or some such and their resulting requirements to be able to ship such goods are so demanding the shippers are charging very high rates.

Not only that, but we cannot buy powder, brass, bullets or rifle scopes from the USA at all as our government has some kind of agreement with USA Homeland security preventing such orders. Even rifle stocks now must be 'imported' into Canada from the USA by a wholesaler with the appropriate import licensing.

In my mind it is government caving in to green groups and do not want to be seen openly doing it.

Things like brass and rifle scopes must be imported by licensed Canadian importers too, not just stocks

I should have added this.

For the OZ guys, l have just found out than very shortly distribution is going back to how it was 3 years ago with multiple wholesale options for the shops. And they are bloody happy about it too.

Time will tell with pricing, we shall see!

Re: Whats going on with powder $???
In some cases companies have been given sole rights to import and distribute a product. For example! Here in NZ Stock tools import Car parts and automotive tools and supply only retail stores. I can go to their warehouse show room . But I'm not allowed to buy directly from them because they have a contract with the big name chain stores. Another example is Hella the automotive lighting manufacturer. I'm an auto electrician but to buy from them I have to buy a minimum of $250,000.00 worth of stock.! So I have to go thru one of their rich cashed up supply agent's
I think if you could see what's really going on with the supply chain. Management are just wealth building? They're creating fear of loss in us so that we're going to pay loads more because of the fear (False Events Appearing Real) That they generate by manipulation of the supply market. The solution is to make your own "Thunder dust". ........... Do you ever get the feeling that they reading what we write about here? Hello industrial cyber Spy! I know you're out there! !!!!!!!!
