Drylube

Hi!

I'm looking for a dry lubricant to use in the bore before going into the field. The only drylube I can find here in Denmark is containing PTFE (Teflon). I can't imagin it would be a good idea to put that stuff into the barrel since it would reduce drag and frigtion...

I have tried to buy Militec-1 from Amazon, but they wont send out of the US. Do you guys have any alternatives?

Thanks!

J.

Hi Jacob,

I'm not quite sure why you're afraid of less friction in bore - that's why you use moly.
But to answer your question. If I get it right, you're looking for a purely graphite based dry lube. I don't know where to find that. Only graphite based drylubes, that I know of, are in combination with MoS2 - moly. There might be corrosion issues with that (my take, please correct me). Come to think of it, you won't get much corrosion protection from pure graphite.
Read Nathan's book on maintenance. Page 222 he talks about Fluna Tec. A ceramic PTFE based dry lube. They are quite common, Fluna Tec is a high end gun product, haven't searched for that in Denmark. Anschütz (target rifles) makes one ceramic/PTFE as well. In Denmark the easiest place for that is Skyttebutikken. Other high end industrial products can be had from Diatom A/S. Give them a call if it's not in the web shop. They stock CRC 350/ Long Life, Soft Seal, and lanolin based grease as well.

Re: Drylube
Hi Peter!

Thank you for your reply. I might have gotten it wrong about PTFE. I just searched for Militec-1 and learned that it didn't contain PTFE. Compared to a barrel maintenance giude from Remmington i once read wich said:"never use PTFE based lubricants" I just made the assumption that it was a bad idea...

I did not know that Fluna Tec contained PTFE!!!

Now I have plenty of options... Have you tried SuperLube Dry Film?

Thanks again!

Re: Drylube
Hi Jacob,

Glad I could help. No, I haven't used any dry lubes. I use thin oils for shoot over lubes. Ballistol or CRC after talking to Nathan. Dust adhesion is no major problem during hunting season in Denmark :).

It's quite typical of barrel makers telling customers only to use their own products. Does Remmington make a dry lube?

Re: Drylube
I often go on huntingtrips to Germany, Sweden, Scotland etc. The trips last from 3-7 days. For that reason i wanted a shoot over lube that did not move or vannish from the area it was supposed to protect. Thats why i thought of drylube (after reading Nathans book).

I totaly agree with you - dust adhension is not a problem i DK :-)

I have just ordered this from Skyttebutik: http://skyttebutik.dk/product.asp?product=3891

Looking forward to test it!
