Flexing forend M700 varmint

From email query...

Hi there
Just enquiring as to what preparation is needed to stabilize my Remington 700 SPS varmint. Does it permit the barrel to be free floated later on or does it have to bed up to the barrel. The SPS stock has massive amounts of flex where it is free floated when held vertical and touches purely from barrel weight when horizontal.

Hi -----,

It is very important to understand, that on your stock, the weak flex point is at the recoil lug. The recoil lug of the M700 almost cuts the plastic M700 stocks in half. To remedy this, the stock has to be stabilized first to strengthen the forend and fill the skeletal voids in the action, then properly bedded including the first inch of the barrel. This full reinforce will finally allow your rifle to maintain a consistent .5 MOA or less. Its a job that simply can't be short cut.

Hope that explanation makes sense. You can see the weak point for yourself by studying where exactly the flexing occurs through visual observation.

Mr Nathan I very much like your think of the Remington 700. Yes very much trash, not like gun from the good people of Finland. As for da Tikka, ya the lovely T3, some say make with plastic but ar what lovely plastic it is. Now back to the orrible Remington and that orrible recoil lug, only Yank would think up orrible thing such as dat. Mr Nathan you good man would know of the Tikka,ya the lovely T3 with such great little recoil, no cut the stock in half Mr Nathan, no not at all. Ar the Tikka, the lovely T3.
