Rob BirdI just returned from my elk hunt in Idaho with my Foster-Manson 30-06 AI. Got a pretty decent 6x6 with a single heart shot of a 208 gr ELD-M at 500 yards. Caliber sized entry in the hide but just underneath it was out to 3 inches. I did a gutless method field dressing so I didn't see internals. Was in full sun all day that topped out at 75 F and wanted to be speedy about getting meat off. I did, however, find the bullet under the offside hide. It retained 50% of mass with the base fully intact and jacket peeled back. Very happy with the performance! Thanks to all who chimed in on my other thread about the rifle and load development. |

Rob BirdRe: "Elksbane" delivers! Thanks guys. I should add that there was no wind and I had a spotter. Just a matter of dialing it up and getting the rifle settled. All the prep work of knowing my rifle and being confident in the dope was what mattered. That, and solid terminal performance from the projectile! |
