CVA Compass

Here’s a picture of the recoil lug on the CVA Compass:

https://www.riflemagazine.com/Media/Articles/2017%20Issues/4%20July-Aug/JH-19.jpg

At first glance, it seems to be a Tikka knock-off.

But the Tikka lug is flat on top. The CVA lug is dished, to match the cylindrical shape of the action.

The shape of the tang is cylindrical on both guns, like on a Rem 700, or at least more so than on a Mouser, Model 70, or a Howa.

My question is, how is torque absorbed if the recoil lug, action, and tang have no flat surfaces perpendicular to the barrel to counter at it? Tension on the action screws? What, if any benefit could be gained by bedding a action that will twist in its bedding.

Re: CVA Compass
The picture I posted previously was of the TC Compass, which I confused with the CVA Cascade. I still have the same question, though: Do you need a flat area on the receiver to absorb torque?

Sako A7 and Winchester XPR copy the Tikka flat-top recoil lug design. The Savage Axis has a lug with a dished out top surface, like the TC Compass:

However, the Axis has a flat spot on the receiver where the rear action screw goes, so there’s a flat surface perpendicular to the barrel to absorb torque.

It looks like the CVA Cascade uses a flat-top recoil lug:

Re: CVA Compass
I meant the Cascade uses a sandwiched, flat-bottomed lug like the Rem 700 and Savage 10.

Re: CVA Compass
Here’s a better picture of the Cascade action. There is also a flat area on the tang. But the rear action screw goes into the action in front of the trigger, so it’s hard to tell if the flat spot on the tang is meant to bear any force when the rear action screw is torqued, or simply float like a Savage tang.

The reason I brought up the issue is this: Although I think I understand the principles of bedding, from studying the Rifle Accurizing book, the new guns coming out have variations of tried-and-true designs that may not lend themselves to improvement from bedding.

It’s hard to tell from the pictures.

Re: CVA Compass
Maybe the ears on the concave recoil lug fit into the mortise cut in the bottom of the action so as to prevent any twisting movement caused by torque.
