Cleaning a 22lr barrel

As I have not had a 22 since the 80's, I was wondering what the current thinking is regarding barrel cleaning of a rimfire when using jacketed pills.

The old method was just running a brush though the barrel when the accuracy went off.

We now have losts of "Fake News" on the internet so I was wondering what the definitive method is? Hence the question here.

I think you'll find that the general consensus is to clean when the accuracy goes bad. Since the 22 doesn't use jacked bullets, your biggest problem may be leading followed by carbon build up.

Personally, I clean about every 500 rounds. I have been using Hoppe's #9. I'm sure there are other that clean just as well. I use a brush and patches. I do see shell extractions and feeding are more reliable.

If you mean the copper washed bullets I'd be giving it a good clean every hundred rounds or so. Otherwise with normal lubed 22LR every thousand rounds. You have to clean the leade portion and see if there is a buildup of lead. You have to use a brush and good lead solvent to get rid of a buildup, short stroke the leade back and forth rather than pass full length each time. . Accuracy will tell you when it's time to clean, but that's not relevant if you are not regularly grouping the rifle?. 22mag should be cleaned as a centrefire I think.

I have been doing mine regularly. After every shoot. Just with gun oil.
