Mark WhitakerYesterday I was using my time productively browsing the Remington Custom Shop. Yes dreaming of when I win lotto.I noticed the new Kuiu Ultimate Sheep Rifle for $5895, lots of Kuiu and Carbon bling. Now if Nathan and Remington joined forces to produce the "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle", what would it be? My suggestion would not be the obvious Sendero based rifle but a Practical rifle with lots of Practical bling: 7mm Practical - making it a factory calibre Trued long action Remington 700 25" #5 contour 0.70" 8.5 or 8 twist Precision Platform Carbon Stock I would buy one ...... Bryan WebsterRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadI admit to also having lusted over that rifle, and if it were not for the fact I have several older Remingtons that have had close to that price worth of work done to them (price including scope and stock and trigger and....will you know how it goes) |

Luke LahdenrantaRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadI thought the Remington M700 SPS 7mm Remington Magnum was already the unofficial "Terminal Ballistics Edition Ultimate Long Range Rifle" ? :)Remington supplies the rifle part of the kit, Nathan supplies the Book, DVD, and bedding kit to fix the stock, you pick a scope and off to the races we go! I guess Remington could officially sponsor Nathan like those TV gator hunter guys. Could get the stock hydrodipped with Nathan scowling and shouting "Hold that forend ya pansy!!" I would buy one. |

Nathan FosterRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadVery funny Luke. I am sure that in the instruction booklet, the words "Hold it like a man" would not go amiss. Both Dave Manson and I are still surprised how fast the Practical reamers have been selling. We also had dies made. Dave's share of the order was sold before I could even make announcements, am not sure if he has any left. I am currently withholding putting the dies up for sale on our site as we have upgraded the seater stem further. All dies whether sold or yet to be sold will be fitted with these optimized stems. I won't take any pre-orders with these dies as it just gets too confusing and we will end up selling out pre-orders of our stock plus pre-orders for the next shipment. I would rather keep it simple. There have certainly been some nice rifles available through the Remington Custom Shop over the years. I also sometimes wonder if Ruger might benefit from 'thinking premium' in a broader sense. Ruger generally try to be innovative, but will then use very poor materials to produce budget rifles (such as the American) when if some of the same methodology was applied to a premium rifle, the results might be outstanding to say the very least. But alas, if I was involved, I dare say there would be a lot of scowling. I prefer to do what is right, not what is easy or simply what the customer wants. That way- the customer actually gets what he needs and then finally discovers that this is what he wanted all along. |

Martin TaylorRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadWith that sort of budget it has to be a SS control round feed Rem clone for me, you get all the excellent design benefits of the Rem and more reliable cycling. So like a Montana etc, etc. with a pinned 20moa rail.Ruger's work very well after setting up but they are over complicated in their designs, way to much going on for me. Pick your adjustable stock its a very personal taste part of the equation, you all know the design characteristics to look for from reading Nathan's literature and watching the videos. And the Practical l have considered many, many times but for what I'm trying to do l'd need to go for an Edge or similar, so you'd better offer some cal options Nathan. |

Martin TaylorRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadShould have written Big Horn not Montana. Montana being a Win clone. |

Dan KeeneRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadThere is a whole range of rifles to be produced here under "TBR & Associates".From all those high end rifles discussed above to some rusty old P14 with a stainless barrel and enormous clip on beard for the "Thomas Kitchen Edition" |

Thomas KitchenRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadDan you probably remember when it was announced on the wireless that the british army was looking at replacing the lee enfield after the boer war with a mauser style bolt action.did you jump on your penny-farthing to go tell your friends. you know its looking a million bucks now after a rebluing specially for 100 year old action, they are well made actions, would be nice to have a 35/303 built on one hmmm. i thought Nathan would want a nice browning, with an ultra light carbon fiber stock with skinny forend to save weight, maybe a nice no1 profile carbon wrapped barrel in a hard hitting magnum like 6.5 creedmoor. sounds like the practical is going from strength to strength, it'll be saami spec'd next. i think a trued 700 with a wyatt magazine and a precision platform stock would be hard to beat. would like to see cz up there game bit more maybe offer it in stainless and work on their fit and finish bit more. also the zoli rifle which a meant to be an evolution of the husky 1900 rifle could have some potential. warwick there's a 358 norma mag and a 35 sta (full length 375h&h blown out) but none in 300win mag length that i know of. there is a 35 umt which is a 35/300rum which must just be crazy |

Lane SalvatoRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadThomas,Nathan would also insist upon monolithic copper projectiles with an extra tough nose to ensure they stay together and make an exit wound for a nice blood trail over the mountains. One could argue for an extra long box magazine and make it the Tactical Practical. Also, extra light scope and rings to be sure to keep the weight to 6.5 lbs or less, a definite "mountain rifle"! |

Joshua MayfieldRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadI want in. I'll help with stateside marketing. Let's kick things off by offering complimentary promotional kit (see how I used "kit" like you Aussies and Kiwis) items, starting with the "Foster Special," a baseball style cap that can only be worn backward and wraparound sunglasses. |
@ 02:28 pm (GMT) |
Lane SalvatoRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadJoshua, are you sure we shouldn't offer a boonie hat in that kit instead of a baseball cap? |
@ 05:20 am (GMT) |
Joshua MayfieldRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadDefinitely tongue-in-cheek on the baseball cap and glasses. The boonie is where it's at. I've become a believer on this point, among others. |

Lane SalvatoRe: The official Remington Custom Shop "Terminal Ballistics Ultimate Long Range Rifle" threadCertainly Joshua. Good humor for sure! And yes, I've taken to wearing one at the range as well. |
