Nosler Rifles

Does anyone have any experience with Nosler rifles, either the factory lines or the semi-custom option? Their M48 action is apparently their version of what they consider to be a combination of the best features from some of the most successful actions ever. From the photos in their catalogue it looks like a bit of a cross between a Remington M700 action and a Winchester M70 action, with a few other features from other actions as well. Looking at the specs, they appear to be a bit on the lightweight side for magnum power, but I'm primarily interested in the short action cartridges, mainly the .308 family, and it seems like they would be just about right for those. The quality seems to be very good, and all the reviews I've been able to find seem to be very positive. I didn't realize they had been around for so long, since 2005 apparently.

Hi Gary?, if you look closely, you'll see it is a Howa action. It has had a wee bit of remodelling to make it look a bit different, going a bit further than Weatherby who also use this action for their Vanguard rifles. But otherwise, it is essentially a Howa.

Hope that helps.

Re: Nosler Rifles
Thanks Nathan. (It's Greg). I'm not really familiar with the Howa action, although I recall that you had a short section on it in your Long Range Hunting Rifle book. I will revisit it as it's been awhile since I read it. I've mostly ignored the Weatherby rifles since they insist on putting those ridiculous Monte Carlo stocks on everything.

My objective is a combo woods and open country deer rifle (Western U.S.) in either 7mm-08 or .308.

Montana Rifle is another brand that has caught my eye, and I seem to recall that you thought highly of their action in your Rifle book. The only issue I have with them is that they also put Monte Carlo stocks on many of their rifles, although there are some exceptions.
