BEST 30-06 HAND LOADS?

I've recently purchased a Tikka T3X Super Lite in 30-06 and am looking for recommended load recipes people like best. I have a few kilograms of ADI AR2208 so would like to start with that. The rifle will be used for Deer hunting and a little long distance goat shooting. So any recipes people may like to share would be great and much appreciated.
Cheers Rob

ive heard if 57gr of adi ar2209 with a 168gr bullet wont shoot in your rifle nothing will, but a proper load development would be the way i'd go.

I would ersonally not take anyone's word for loads on the internet, but one might use them as a guide when reading the reloading manuals for the bullet make/model/weight your plan to use. What was said above applies to proper load workup since all rifle bores are not the same now are the actions or persons doing the reloads.

Get yourself the latest handloading manual for the bullet(s), brand(s) and start some place in the middle of the load range and work up in small increments until you find a velocity and accuracy that suits your purpose. No need to go overboard on high velocity if your rifle likes a more modest load.

If you simply start with too high a powder charge you may damage your rifle and/or yourself, so do not take this lightly. A recommendation would also be to buy Nathan's Reloading book and watch his online video on accurizing the Tikka rifles. As well, you might learn a lot about your new rifle reading Nathan's article in the Knowlegebase on the 30/06 rifle where there is a section on handloadd ammunition for hunting various big game animals.

Hi Rob

I tried ADI AR2208 but 58.5gns of AR2209 with 168gn Z-Max (A-Max) 2860fps is what I use. I worked my way up to that load, very accurate in my rifle

My rifle is a Remington 700 24" Maddco barrel.

I'm using Lapua brass, be sure to stick to one brand of brass, they have slightly different capacities, a load that works in one brand will be different in another brand.

Re: BEST 30-06 HAND LOADS?
I am old. I have used the 06 for many years. Hands down, the Sierra 165 BTHP over 54 grains of H414 with a CCI 250 Mag Primer. If you choose to go above White tails then go with Winchester Factory 180's. If that don't flat out kill what you are after, then I might suggest a 338 Win Mag, or even a 375 H&H. Myself, I have a fondness for the 378 Wby Mag with 270 grain bullets of proper construction.:)

believe i read it on various forums, its always stuck in my mind.

its about 2 grains below max according to the adi manual so should be safe...
but honestly i'd take it all with a grain of salt and start at start loads if you havent reloaded for this rifle before.

Re: BEST 30-06 HAND LOADS?
Rob.

I just had a look, the Lapua brass has gone up $216, but Norma is a lot cheaper $125. I haven't used Norma or Hornady though. Sako is $165, Hornady is $140.

I bought all the cases & projectiles I'll need a few years back when they were half the price or less. Happy I did

Re: BEST 30-06 HAND LOADS?
Hi Rob, I find that 2208 (varget) can work very well with either the 165gr SST or 168gr A-MAX (now called ELD-M). You do not need any load recipes- borrowing loads from the net can be dangerous. Use a reloading manual and work up accordingly.

Recoil will be hefty in your ultra light. Technique is the key as covered in the book series.

Thanks for your kind comments Chris. The books will help. But they tend to help best when folk read them before spending up on kit, not afterwards.

Re: BEST 30-06 HAND LOADS?
I have been using my 30-06 quite a bit this year for fallow and reds
the loads I use are with adi 2209, a very good powder for the 30-06 and 150gr gamekings, the shots I have been taking have been between 250 and 300 no closer, the result is a full freezer for me, family and friends, this combination has not let me down
from your answers you don't sound like a tool but are looking for good combinations to try, there are pet loads out there, Ken Waters wrote a book a long time ago about them but you are better to do your own testing
my old brno 30-06 like's 150's so that's what I feed it, not one hole but very consistent less than quarter moa
I have used it with 150's on sambar no problem and am about to again as I am getting permits ect organised for a populous place hunt shooting vermin sambar but I will use 155gr berger hunting projectiles as I want the energy spent inside the animal and not wanting an exit wound if I cant brain shoot
BRT sells the 30-06 lapua cases http://brtshooterssupply.com.au/products/lapua-cases-box100.html
the lapua cases are exy I must admit I use them but did not pay that amount for them, before hand I used winchester cases with the same amount of accuracy after they were what I call match prepped, I like win cases
anyway the rifle will tell you what it like's
regards mark
