Successful Pronghorn Hunt - Once Again, Nathan's Teaching Brings Home the Bacon

This weekend I was fortunate enough to be able to go on a long desired hunt for pronghorn in New Mexico. This animal was 315 yards from me, and I had to make a hurried shot with my 25-06 and Winchester 120 Grain PEP's. The bullet hit his heart and he was able to run about 50 yards before collapsing.

This shot, although not made from a proper position is the longest that I have attempted on a big game animal. It's not a long range shot by today's standards, but not one that I would have attempted before reading Nathan's books, and practicing his techniques.

I post this only to say that the techniques, practice, and skills that one learns from Nathan work, whether up close or far away, and gave me the confidence to execute a shot that otherwise would have been passed up.

Fantastic lane! The quarter bores strike again.

Thanks again for your kind words. I am so glad that I have been able to help. Sounds like it was a high pressure situation when the shot was taken. These are the times when our developed skills really pay off. Soon sorts theory from reality.

Great stuff!

Well done, Lane. It wasn't until about five years ago that I saw a live pronghorn. I never realized just how small they are. Which makes this encounter even more impressive in my books. Congratulations.

Thanks Paul. Yes, they are small. I didn't realize it either. The guide told me that they are about the size of a Central Texas whitetail, making them about 90 lbs. It was a fun hunt for sure.

Congrats Lane!

Have you eaten any yet? I'd be interested to hear how it tastes.
