Milfoam Forrest bore foam

I recently bought the latest three books in Nathan's series, I'm really enjoying them. Thanks!
I noticed that there was no mention of Forrest foam bore cleaner. I guess you don't have it in NZ..
I really rate it, I can't claim to compare it to the other brands that you mention in terms of its ability to strip copper and carbon, (which it does well). It has one big advantage over the traditional solvents though. It's a foam. It comes in an aerosol with a tube applicator to insert into the chamber, through the ejection port, although it's easier to use a bore guide. You push it in and give it a one second blast, (it comes out fast) the entire bore is filled with a white foam which contacts all parts of the bore. Then you go and have a cuppa and wait. Come back in an hour or so and patch it out, job done.. You can leave it in for longer for heavy fouling..
It's handy when you get in knackered from a day out with the rifle, I have left it in overnight before after shooting foxes by night. Doesn't seem to do the bore any harm.. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the stuff, however if it's not reached NZ yet maybe you don't have any..

i have never heard of it here in nz.
my local my gun shop has just started stocking WIPEOUT which i guess is similar.
heard good reports of wipeout but haven't tried it myself i tend to stick to what i know works even if its old school and more work.

I've seen the Wipeout stuff but not tried it, I wonder if the Forrest foam is more concentrated as the instructions recommend 30 mins to 1 hour for Forrest foam but 1 hour to overnight for wipe out. Wipeout certainly looks the same, like shaving foam.

It's pretty common here in Denmark. I've used it and it is convenient to use. I tend to leave it longer than stated on the can. Some leave it overnight, haven't tried that. Even though the it's a foam it starts to run after a while. A tip is to flip the rifle 180 after a while for an even reaction. It's not the strongest product on the market but does the job after one or two applications. Bad at removing carbon, though. All in all I'm satisfied but if you've got a heavy fouler my advice would be to look for something else.

I am a fan of Wipeout. I do not use the foam however but buy it in liquid form along with a product they call the Accelerator. Similar to the above method, I leave it 15 minutes then feed a tight dry patch through several times and do it again. Then I feed a wet patch of it and leave it overnight. In the morning I feed a couple dry tight patches through and assess the amount of work left by how clean the patch is. If there is still carbon and or copper I put more in the bore and wait 15 minutes, dry patch, repeat. Normally the bore on my rifle after two or three tries is completely clean.

If I plan to go out right away to shoot or hunt, I run a patch through with not too much on it and let it sit in the bore as it has good anticorrosion in it and one can shoot over it. Same when I store it but a bit more.

Many benchrest shooters in Canada and the USA are using this stuff now, and there ar lots of justifiably positive reviews..

One of the easiest ways to test a copper solvent cleaner is to use a surplus bullet, a gauze pad, and your cleaner. Soak the pad with the solvent and lay a bullet on it. Wait. Blue should start showing up soon. The quicker it takes to show colour, the stronger the solution. I tried Wipeout vs. Barnes CR-10, both showed amazing copper etching properties. One caveat to the above test, there is a copper solvent on the market (forget which one, sorry) that turns black in the presence of copper, so you would have to use etching as a guideline.

Wipeout is my go to. After the first cleaning, all subsequent cleanings go much faster. Like Bryan, I shoot over it, and have not noticed the need for foulers to remove it from the bore.

I'm using Wipeout and MP-4 on some guns. However, I do stick to Nathan's regimen for cleaning a 270 and 7mm-08 I own. These guns took a lot of work to clean. The JB bore past and the 3m pad have made them much easier to clean. If you think you are doing a good job, take a look with a bore scope. You may be very surprised. The first 6-8 inches of the bore ahead on the chamber is what really needs the work IMHO. This is where the 3m pad and bore paste excel. Different strokes for different folks.

I was given a bottle of Wipeout to try and have found it to be very good with the suggested book methods. It works very well on truly stubborn / gloopy copper foulers.

Thanks for the feedback Shawn.

Re: Milfoam Forrest bore foam
I should qualify my previous statement about shooting over Wipeout. I have only done this on the short range hunters, nothing long range. The little difference at 100m may show different POI at 500+. Time for another experiment.

For both my .308 and 7mm Rem Mag I cleaned the devil oit of them then used Autosol as Nathan mentioned. I then began using Wipeout and after 875 rounds fired from the .308, and having used Wipeout every 75 to 80 rounds or so to completely clean the bore I do use a good bore scope and have found nothing to worry about. I did however use JB Bore Cleaner on the throat a couple of times in between on the 7mm but it did not actually need much but then it had been fired only 226 times too.
