Martin TaylorSome interesting changes offered from Tikka with the new model T3X.Modular stock with different grip options for both pistol grip shape and forend width, better recoil pad. Foam insert in butt to reduce that horrible noise when they brush up against saplings. Steel lug instead of Alloy. Bigger ejection port. And metal bolt shroud instead of the plastic one that everyone breaks. Stronger rail mount? Will be interesting to see how these changes go, many of which where done as aftermarket mods! http://www.tikka.fi/rifles/tikka-t3x |

Bryan WebsterRe: New Tikka T3XI had been looking at their web site on the same products as well.I will, however wait until several of our importers/retailers have some in their hands to fondle before making any judgements. Looking good all right though. |

Thomas KitchenRe: New Tikka T3Xwas just having a look, they are dropping the t3 by looks of it and the t3x will replace it and comes in all the variants lite, varmint, wood etc.be interesting to see if opening up the ejection port and using steel recoil lug as any affect on accuracy? |

Bryan WebsterRe: New Tikka T3XAdding a good solid one piece Picatinny rail, like a night force Extreme or a Farrel and epoxying it as well as screwing it tight would likely offset all or most of any potential lack of rigidity I would guess. It will be interesting to look inside the stock to see what can be done in the way of a bedding job which, I always assume will be needed. |

Bryan WebsterRe: New Tikka T3XOne thing i am disappointed in with the T3X is that they have not used the barrel nut/headspacing like Remington has done with their model 783 rifles. (and Savage). I see a lot of recent entries into precision rifles which have interchangeable barrels and I really do appreciate the idea. It would be a good thing in the long term for more manufactures to follow suit and perhaps in the longer term, resolve any potential issues associate with the concept. |

Nathan FosterRe: New Tikka T3XInteresting for sure. It is lso interesting how the design has and continues to surpass Sako offerings.Realistically, the Sako rifle needs a complete redesign to get out of the hole that it has been dug into. The further the T3 advances, the more this will put pressure on Berretta to make better use of Sako's engineering potential. |

Nathan FosterRe: New Tikka T3XJust thinking about that gas shroud. I am not 100% sure of this. The current can explode if gas vents to the rear. An ali shroud will stay together better but if it does explode, the fragments have greater weight / momentum. Either way, these are the downsides of modern rifles with lighter actions and parts. Mauser used a very heavy flange on an extremely strong shroud. We see this on the K98 but not on the Swede. I see some Tikka rifles with no plastic shroud because it has either been lost or broken. Not really an easy answer for this- apart from taking care not to overload a rifle or put the wrong ammo in it or plug the bore. |

Martin TaylorRe: New Tikka T3XInteresting Nathan, l have seen many broken for ruff handling etc. but never heard of any destroyed during venting. In these times of litigation, they would have to have tested it........... Surely.I do rember sending you the resulting picture of one overloaded with pistol powder! Ouch........ As for bedding Bryan, very doable combined with stabilising but not always needed! |

Bryan WebsterRe: New Tikka T3XI agree the new stock just might be stiff enough. Have yet to see one however, and never did really like the older T3 synthetic stock anyway but forearm filled and bedded might have been OK snuff all right.I followed all the Tikka bedding posts on here and have an interest now so will wait and see how these T3X ones are. |

Bryan WebsterRe: New Tikka T3XThomas brought up a good point on their opening up the ejection port and if it might reduce the action rigidity. Hope not but my comment was related to that as well in the event it introduced any issue. |

Thomas KitchenRe: New Tikka T3XBryan you can fit your own barrel nut style barrel to a tikka anyway, i did see on i think roedale website (someone here mentioned website so had a look a while back) that they made a pre chambered barrel with nut on it.im not sure how much this would affect barrel harmonics and unless you live in a country that requires a lot of issues buying another rifle in another caliber it seems a lot of hassle. also saw these on there website which is bit odd idea http://www.webshop.roedale.de/gx2/product_info.php?info=p1245_tikka-t3-3-position-safety-right-handed.html never thought about the the shroud being a safety concern like Nathan mentioned |
