Hi Nathen,
just put deposit on 5R today $1640 au now just would like your opinion on my thoughts please,
the 5r has 24in barrel hs precision stock now my thinking is this the MODEL 700 varmint sf 308 is $1330 au trash the stock and get hs precision stock approx $480 au price now totals $1810 au with 26 in barrel would the extra two inches be worth the extra $170 and the hassel of getting the stock.
Would it perform better than the R5 other than a few extra FPS.
Cheers.

Re: M700 5R 308
Hi Nathan,
Was shooting of bags,I will run the load over the chrony next time out and make up ten rounds each of the three seating depths see what goes.
Might make some up .2gr each side of 43.6g and shoot say one of each weight as a group and see if they hit same point of aim or close that generaly shows if its a reliable load well has for me.
I have loads in my 270 with 90g hpts that the es is not great but shoot tight out to 350yrds+ and has been consistant for a couple of years now so i daont always rely on a chrony.
May run them over my new crony and see what they read as the other chrony wasnt that reliable.
I sure low es is more important for long ranges so next time out may try the load out further I think thats the only true test.
The oal of 2.810 still has plenty of bullet in the neck as I did take this into consideration but have tried 2.800-2805-2810 with not much variation which I find strange .
I have read in a few sites that 2206h/H4895 is a finicky powder influenced by minor load prep changes but with the different oals I have tried this dosnt appear to be so, have you experienced any problems with this powder just curious as the old highway of imformation THE NET can be a bit so so.
Shall get back later and let you know how things go.
Cheers

Re: M700 5R 308
I used 2206 for years, then 2206H came along and I moved to this. I have never had any problems with the former or the latter in my rifles or client rifles with either accuracy or ES. Where I have had a high ES, factors like neck tension and annealing of the brass have resolved issues. I just had to throw out my own .308 brass, its done over 10 reloads / neck sizings.

One of my personal golden rules is to never go over 71mm COAL in the .308Win. I load from 42 through to 44.5gr in half grain increments, then retest around the sweet spot in .1 or .2gr increments.

Hope that helps.

Re: M700 5R 308
Hi Nathan,
I will take that rule onboard for the oal and make that my measurement.
Thanks for your opinion on the powder was just curious,I think I may have found an issue whilst looking at my tack driver front bag noticed indents with tug marks/streching from sling studs so took them off that must affect the shot.
Will be interesting next time out to see what difference there will be as for the load increments got that sorted from past discussions just tweaking it now but thanks all the same.
Cheers.
Trev.
