Dave RootHello friends,I have a pre 2007 savage model 10 in .308. Left handed. I bought it used around 2008, its always been kind of a tack driver even with the Tupperware stock. It has the older action screw spacing of 4.27 I think, off hand. Its not the newer 4.400. It also has a mag box connected to the action. Im having trouble finding a new stock that fits the bill so for now. Im even considering making a nice walnut stock, but for now itd like to go thru the bedding process and learn as well as start reloading and just become a more proficient shooter. Im sad to see you cant ship to the states anymore but I do have both products from over 10 years ago!! Life got busy with a couple kids, and a special needs daughter. But things have stabilized and Id like to get back into this track before Im too old! Any chance itll still work? My thoughts are to try the stabilizer and see if it kicks off. Worst case Ill just have a mess in a pretty shabby stock anyway. Any recommendations for products otherwise? All that , my first question is do I need to/ can I remove the mag box to fill the mag well with plasticine? The plasticine in the kit is still malleable. Second, if I remove that can I put in a bottom metal with detachable box mag? Inletting, but otherwise will that work? Are there any other things I need to consider for that? Thanks Dave |

Nathan FosterRe: Bedding questionHi Dave, I don't have any recommendations - am actually still trying to get our products over to the U.S. But still nothing finalized.Sorry to hear about your family challenges. I hear you. That model stock is quite flexible. I once fitted a piece of cut away 2" stainless dairy tube as a reinforce but that was possibly a bit too extreme. In practice, the key factor is to inlet the stock so that it doesn't undergo any stress when pushing the receiver into the mortice. As long as the compound can flow out and nothing is forced into place (minimal bungee tension), then it will have a chance of curing without flexing the stock. Yes, the internal box can be removed for bedding. Regarding detachable bottom metal. If you want to go this route, how about pricing up a Boyds stock? |
