Trever LivelyAnyone using this powder with 155gr bullets?I just tried a couple loads in my 20 Springfield Armory 2020 action and just want to get an idea from others on velocities. With 44gr of Benchmark Im getting avg 2830 fps with 155 Lapua scenars using Lapua brass. So far ES looks good and accuracy is great with smooth extraction. I also tried 43.5gr for avg 2810 fps but accuracy is not as good. I cant find much data with this powder but I do see anywhere from 2900-2935 fps with 155gr bullets with similar powders in a 24 barrel. My thought is subtracting 100 fps for my 20 barrel should put a reasonable safe max velocity at 2800-2835 fps. Im not new to reloading but I am new to shooting a 308win. Just looking for thoughts from others that are experienced loading for this round in 20 barrels. Thanks. |

Nathan FosterRe: 308win with Benchmark powderBook max for BM2 / 155gr = 43.5gr / 2750fps / 24" barrel.Your load = 44gr for 2830fps / 20" barrel. Hi Trever, the key here is to monitor the brass. If the primer pockets swell after a couple of loadings then it will pay to back off. If you are over book max then yes, you will achieve high speeds. BM2 is quite fast so it will be generating relatively high pressure. Again, the most important factor is to keep an eye on the brass. All the best, Nathan. |
