Re: 7mm Practical (and magnums) 46 months ago by Nathan Foster Re: 7mm Practical (and magnums)

Thats actually pretty good performance. Large animal versus small caliber. The wound is a good 2.5" wide, the A-Max has done well. There was very little bone on the way in, yet it did open up. The internal wound was large but the vitals were equally large relative to the wounding potential of the Swede. Yes, if using the A-Max in close, tuck it in tight behind the shoulder. I would not download the Swede. Dual loading- work up a fast potent Partition load with an accuracy goal of 1 MOA, does not..

Re: 7mm Practical (and magnums) 46 months ago by Sebastian Shand Re: 7mm Practical (and magnums)

i'll dig up the photos and upload them, they aren't very detailed as my mate wasn't sure what to take photos of. I've hunted with the swede for 3years now and even tho i hate being under gunned when hunting i am in love with it but i know to learn its limitations and use it accordingly. i think i will start duel loading like you say nathan as one bullet will not do everything. whats the best way of going about duel loading? is poi a problem between the to bullets? what are your suggestions for s..

Re: Want to try a Whitetail hunt 46 months ago by Paul Leverman Re: Want to try a Whitetail hunt

That is all really good information. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you. I think what had me most concerned was that I was falling prey to the "Master" hunter video producer, you know, the Hollywood Hunter. Dramatic videos, exciting music, 5.8million magnum from 3200 yds. Mark, I also prefer your method. I like sitting there watching and waiting. There is so much going on out there that if you don't take the time to sit and look, you will never see it. My own personal gauge of patience is..

Re: Things to look for when purchasing a 303 46 months ago by Nathan Foster Re: Things to look for when purchasing a 303

Hi Cor. OK, lets see. As Thomas says, the bores on these are mostly done now. Even if the bore looks good, if the rifle was used for culling etc, the throat may be cracked and it is important to understand that eventually, the barrels do rupture at the chamber. But this involves a very high round count- culling / cadet training etc. You'll need to check the muzzle and what you can see of the bore up close as Warwick did with his BSA CF2 in the other thread. Check the throat as best you can. Putt..

Re: Medium bore 46 months ago by Bryan Webster Re: Medium bore

Reflecting on the content of this thread so far, it seems to me that Warwick's idea of the 35 Whelen would be the rifle for you. Recoil is not bad at all, and the cartridge results in drop at the shot capacity if you do your part. I once owned one in a featherweight Husqvarna. I was on the job with a large problem grizzly bear and had to shoot it at 30 feet head on. The bullet went in its throat and left an exit hole just below the tail at the far end. He just dropped on the spot. Was the heavie..

Not to hijack the thread, but to Nathan: could you supply a link in regards to your "powdery" lead comment please? I had not seen this nor heard of it, but I miss things, a lot. Thanks.

Re: Medium bore 47 months ago by Bryan Webster Re: Medium bore

I was just looking around the Nosler Web site and noted the M48 Outfitter Rifle Product Line in the following calibers. Since there is interest in the medium calibers in this thread, I thought someone might be interested. 308 Win 30-06 Sprg 338 Win Mag 35 Whelen 9.3x62mm Mauser 375 Ruger 458 Win Mag

Re: .303 Wildcat or conversion for an Enfield P14 Action 47 months ago by Thomas Kitchen Re: .303 Wildcat or conversion for an Enfield P14 Action

hi Ben yes the threads that the barrel screws into, most barrel makers get there steel in 1.23 diameter then rifle it from there as i have discovered but you can get custom ones from different sources. hugh bradley of bradley barrel is one if you want to go local but don't no a lot about his barrels. there's few improved version of the 303 some massively like the ICL on the other hand ellwood epps was trying to get better brass life more then velocity with his version but he got both.

Re: .303 Wildcat or conversion for an Enfield P14 Action 47 months ago by Ben Grady Re: .303 Wildcat or conversion for an Enfield P14 Action

Thanks Thomas I will google the two calibers you mention and see if they spin my wheels. By a large receiver is that the threaded part by chamber? My barrel is made to any dimensions, we (me and gunsmith) just let the barrel maker know the sizes for each part of the profile shape that we want. I would have thought it would be similar to my P17. I have read a 303 Epps improved is similar to a 308's ballistics?. More homework required. I am open to any suggestions, sure I could just buy a new rifl..

Now you know the rest of the story.... 47 months ago by Paul Leverman Now you know the rest of the story....

Back in October, I started a thread called "A Little Disappointed in Hornady". It evolved into wide open discussion and storied sequence. Included was an account of a bear attack on some of our local hunters. The story finally came to light in the local newspaper. http://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/news/local-news/i-was-just-a-rag-doll-1.2143629 [http://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/news/local-news/i-was-just-a-rag-doll-1.2143629]

Re: Trying to order bedding products 47 months ago by Warwick Marflitt Re: Trying to order bedding products

I'm sure that the product has many other uses? How would it be for alloy boat repairs gluing timber, concrete, tiles, flow filling cracks and gaps. As a water pipe thread sealer hose to tail fitting sealer......? I'm just throwing it out there! Look at the Wright brothers using bicycle cement to glue the propeller nuts on the Wright flyer.? Increase your sales by finding new avenues and uses? Just saying. As for the freight issues do what Ebay did and set up your own small volume freight forward..

Information/Tips wanted on using a chronograph. 48 months ago by Ben Grady Information/Tips wanted on using a chronograph.

Hi Guys Here is a reply I posted on my P17 Project 25 06 thread. I am new to chronys so any tips/advice on their usage would be appreciated. Mine is the Blue, "Beta Master Chrony". I set it up with the screen cord at full stretch, say 4-5m away with the sun shields. The chrony was sitting on the ground and I was testing a suppressor so muzzle blast probably wasn't an issue. It was a hot, sunny day, with a tail wind. I was shooting prone off the bi-pod with a back rest. Below is the reply to Bob ..

Re: Are the 700 clones universal? 48 months ago by Paul Leverman Re: Are the 700 clones universal?

Thanks, Cor. That's good info, and I appreciate your input. It's kind of what I figured was happening. I think what it boils down to is why try to re-invent the wheel. Remington did a good job,as well as the others, so is it worth it to start over? Someone, somewhere will come up with an alternative, and that's ok, because we don't want to become stagnant. Warwick, I am very familiar with Barnard. I have a PL. It is truly a work of art. I am, however, in the same boat as yourself regarding the e..

Re: .243 win. and Partitions for Whitetail Deer 48 months ago by Nathan Foster Re: .243 win. and Partitions for Whitetail Deer

As long as the deer are not too heavy, this bullet performs very well. What you have to understand is that this bullet does have to work hard after impact to stay together. Hornady utilized a flat base as well as their Interlock swage and external cannelure swage and these features do allow the bullet to penetrate to vitals on mid sized deer. Quite often you can see that the 95gr SST has only just held together or fallen completely apart after reaching and passing through vitals. Wounding does t..

Re: full length sizing issue :( 48 months ago by G Dog Re: full length sizing issue :(

Yeah I think so Bob. My normal method is very similar to yours as well. I found that in new brass to once fired in my 7x57 there was almost 100fps velocity loss. I thought I was seeing things, but I wasn't. So, yes I recheck after all the new brass has been fired. I'm very much a hunter, I'll shoot paper once the body gives out, hopefully another 30 plus years left :) I'll updare the thread once im sorted. Its my first .280ai so its all new and exciting too. I'll be intrigued to see if I can tam..

Brno ZKK 600 update 48 months ago by Mike Dewey Brno ZKK 600 update

Been a lot of load development since my last update. I check the stores often when in town and have a fair selection of powder now: IMR 3031, 4895, 4064 plus H4350 and Win 748 for the 9.3x62. Short barrel (20) so have to push things to get any speed. With 286 gr Nosler Partitions can reach or exceed 2400 fps with any of them without pressure signs except for the Win 748 which showed tight bolt randomly at all loadings from medium to high. The original stock is European style with a short, slend..

Re: New 358 barrels 48 months ago by Thomas Kitchen Re: New 358 barrels

hi jason. being a wildcat the reamer had to be custom as i don't believe gunsmith would have one. me and Nathan discussed few options to try and avoid needing to get custom reamer, but in the end it just seemed like the best option. not to sure if gunsmiths have a good deal going with reamers makers but at a guess if i paid for the gunsmith to organize it plus the mark up i would be no better off. not sure if with one off jobs gunsmiths charge full price for reamer and client gets reamer or not?..
