The search is on for a chronograph, I would appreciate any suggestions as to type, brand, features to look for etc.

Don't have a budget as such however, don't want to spend a fortune either.

Cheers,

Ian

Re: Chronograph
I used to be embarrassed about this Ian. I started out with a cheap F1 chrony, just the basic unit. It lasted years and years, its still going strong. I can't fault it because it has never let me down. The F1 has been true to its readings, my drops are perfect, client rifle trajectories and drops are equally perfect. ES has been perfect as well.

A couple of months ago I decided that the F1 was looking very tatty, its already been through one repaint, the front screen is gone- definitely well loved. So I went chrony shopping. I discovered that I apparently needed 50,000 settings and cross reference measurements, I probably needed some Doppler equipment too. Ultimately I thought back to my F1 and how accurate it was, then bought the exact same unit again. I took the new unit to the range, unpacked it, shot through it, shot through the old chrony to confirm velocities and everything was the same. So now I have my new chrony while the old one sits at home as a back up.

Just make sure you put your chrony well out in front of you, about 12 feet is good, 13-14ft can sometimes be even better. If you go too close, it can muck up your readings including the ES.

Re: Chronograph
Well that's good to hear Nathan and narrows the search considerably.

Cheers a lot, Ian.

Re: Chronograph
I also have the F1 chrono. I simply bought it because it was cheap, but hasn't given me grief as yet. The only issue I had was one day when the sun was rather low in the sky (towards evening) and I got a couple crazy high velocities.

Paying a bit more would for something give you some memory and poss ES SD calcs, if required, or simply keep a pen and paper handy and record it yourself.

Re: Chronograph

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the assistance, have purchased a Shooting Chronograph Chrony Alpha Master.

That's the one with the remote screen so less to damage when I shoot it!

Cheers, Ian

Re: Chronograph
I use a pro chrono and cant fault it, check out the utube vid,
but I wish I had a magnetic speed as they just work period,
they hang off your barrel so your point of impact does change after use
but they seem to be the rage at the moment, at my local range there are a lot of second hand chrony's for sale LOL

Re: Chronograph
I use a Pact and have done everything from air rifle slugs to 58 calibre minie bullets. It has never let me down or thrown surprises.
