im looking at quad bikes. whats yours like? any pictures?
what do you recommend?

so far im comparing Suzuki kingquads . I like there features.
theres a couple for good money late model but high kms. around 30,000kms should I be worried if there rust free, tidy and a good service history?

the actual model is the injected 450, with irs.
I guess that's the other thing, do you like or prefur irs?

im going to want a few extras I will get myself a double gun rack of course, and the dog mat, maybe a box. maybe lights and a coffee machine too, haha.

Re: quad bike / atv
Tough call jason because newer bikes are not lasting as well as older bikes did. Nothing worse than having a break down way out in the waps. Our rural bike mechanic and Stephs Cousin (waikoto rural bike mechanic) have both found that after 2002, things start to get dicey as far as reliability for heavy hill counrty work.

Best brands:
Suzuki King Quad
Honda TRX 300 and 400
Yamaha big bear

Ofcourse much depends on your budget. A regularly serviced Canam or a late model Japanese / U.S bike can produce exceptional performance with all of the modern features we are now seeing. But the moment the bike is left unserviced, there is a lot to go wrong. Going the other way, with an older bike, there is a risk of age related break downs. So we need to be realistic about budget and about potential consequences either way. Allow 4k minimum for a good 4x4 bike up to 1k maintenance per year. Never drive the bike hard or it will treat you the same the day you need it most. Keep it waste oiled etc.

I am currently running a TRX 400 and Yammy 350 big bear. A close friend of mine runs a King Quad (no extras) and another close friend runs the Canadian jobby which floats over rough terrain as if it were a hover craft.

Re: quad bike / atv
yes, it is a hard call.
still not sure about the independent rear suspension, a few people say there not great for taking a passenger or off camber ground. but I guess you take the good with the bad in whatever way you go.
iv never rode one with (irs)
I was thinking an auto too. they seem ok these days and have engine braking on de-acceleration. but open to other ideas.

what do you do with the waste oil?

I like the way you have rifles strapped in there case against the back board.
whats the bumper, just that? or do you carry game on it or something?
no gun rack? but I guess that's more handy at night.
