Nightforce ATACR 4-16x42mm / FFP

Gents,

Take a look at this Bad Boy:

http://nightforceoptics.com/atacr/4-16x42-f1

I figure it has the "balance" of not being huge while carrying a powerful magnification range. FFP in MOAR would work lovely for Long Range no??? Eyeing this or the NXS 3.5-15x for an upgrades .300 Win Mag.

Thoughts???

Saludos.

Hey Bryan, thanks! This review covers the larger 5-25x56mm, which seems to be the first in the series.

The above mentioned is a brand new very compact package, going up to 16x and 42mm....Although it weighs close to the NXS3.5-15x50mm, the overall size is much smaller. As Nathan says, this could balance a mid-weighted (8lb) sporter in 300 Win Mag on a very cool way....

Saludos!!

This post in Sniper's Hide compares the size of the ATACR's, the top one being the new one...

They are $2839.00 Canadian from the one dealer I checked with here in British Columbia, Canada.

Then there is the picatinny rail, bedding and mounting it and the 34 mm rings.
Will be a definite beauty~!

I just noted the elevation adjustments maximum on this scope is 89 MOA compared to 120 MOA on the 5-25x56 atacr. Not that this would be an issue for you, but if shots at extreme ranges are of interest then you might want to look into a canted base. Less of an issue when you have 120 or so to play with.

Hi Ricardo. If your rifle is a medium weight and has stout recoil, the eye relief on this scope may be too short. This scope is about ideal for .308's and braked or suppressed magnum rifles.

So again we come back to rifle weight and recoil. If the rifle is lightish and recoils, look into a basic NXS 5.5-22 power. If the rifle is heavy / recoil light, you can go with a shorter eye relief NF scope.

Too many reviewers overlook these very important factors. If you get a flinch, you won't be able to hit your target regardless of optical precision.

The MOAR reticle would be ideal.

Very cool feedback, thanks! This scope would put the .300WinMag rig at about 10.5lbs ready to go....Seems not so bad for the 3.5" eye relief?

I might be getting it wrong coming from a flyweight .300WSM with a Swarovski Z3 on top, a more dangerous setup for eyebrows than Mike Tyson in his old days...

I've killed a lot of stuff with that .300WSM rifle, including an Aoudad @ 400yds, but I have no desire to use it more...

To top it off (an prior to joining these forums), I restocked it on a McM EDGE with Monte Carlo!!!!

Nathan's comments are on the mark relating to recoil all right. One of their other scope options too if you still wanted a compact scope is the NXS™ 2.5-10×32 COMPACT RIFLESCOPE at about 19 ounces. It has close to the same eye relief as what Nathan mentioned as well, at 3.7 inches.

A local guide-outfitter's wife uses this scope on a 300 Winchester Magnum with 165 grain loads, and loves it. Her rifle with scope full mag, sling, etc weighed in around 9 pounds or perhaps a bit under that.

Last year she got her desert bighorn with it. Long shot too.
