True MOA or Inches?

Nathan, I have just bought a Minox ZA5 1.5-8x32 for my 7mm08.

The turrets are small due to the 1" tube but that are very positive and a solid click, not soggy or plasticy. I am impressed with the feel of them.

I notice in earlier posts that you do not know if they are MOA or minutes. Minox advertises 1/4" clicks at 100 yards.

Whats the best way to check?

The only way I can think of is zero the scope at 100 yards then dial up 20 moa, shoot a group and measure the average. If this calibrated in inches then it should be 20 inches above the zero point. If its MOA then it should be 20.94 inches. Easy to do but not very accurate.

Another way would be put a lazer site in the chamber. Zero the scope on the lazer dot at 100 yards, dial up 20 moa a read off the pre marked target 20 inches or 20.94 inches. Much more accurate.

Is there a better way?

Mark

Re: True MOA or Inches?
Hi Mark, if the rifle can be secured in place on a 100 yard bench of any sort, you can check by winding the scope up and down while reading it against your target without shooting.

Otherwise, you will need to get the rifle shooting accurately, then simply lift it up 10" and see where it prints.

The higher the range, the more you will see errors. In other words, if you go up 3" and down 3', it may not show error (due to operator error). By going up and down a good 10", you will be able to see errors in a clearer fashion.

Hope that helps.

Re: True MOA or Inches?
But that does not mean 1/4 inch = 1/4 inch

Hey Mark,

Sorry I realised that you were actually talking about the mechanical accuracy of the dials rather than what the manufacturer states after I read the post you were referring to.

I cant go back and delete my post unfortunately - I really should double check before I start typing from now on!
