Hi Warwick,

If memory serves you mentioned that you plan on mounting a Nightforce NXS? For my .30 06 M700 (will test it out end of the month) I mounted a Nightforce SHV 5-20. I figured I might as well go all in with the NF, so got a 20MOA rail and the 30mm Ultralight High rings (all NF components).

I will test it out in 2 weeks but so far I am rather happy with the buy. Think theres some very good options listed in the Long Range Hunting Rifles book.

Apart from it being good quality I just like the fact that it stays within one system or brand. Though thats more me being pedantic than anything else haha.

All the best with the build!!

There are a ton of options out there from cheap to pricey, to aluminum to steel. I do not think you want to cheap out on bases and rings.

I went with Farrel picatinny rails for my long and short actioned m700 Remingtons. I have always made certain to go with steel bases and rings (just a personal thing). Mine are 20moa canted base mostly but one rifle is getting a straight base with no cant in it. For rings I went with Burris Zee rings with the inserts in case I have to add some cant using their inserts. I do however like most of the Nightforce rings and have been looking at the Leupold tactical rings which are really solid but also add a lot to the weight.

As mentioned above, I really think you cannot go wrong with Nightforce bases and rings.

A friend went with Seekins bases and rings for a competition rifle and they are expensive as heck but extremely good stuff.

One thing to note is when I installed the rail onto my model 700P LTR in .308 Win, I found I had a slightly irregular receiver and had to bed both ends of the rail. I used JB WELD to do that and had no issues, but this is something to check. There are an abundance of youtube videos on it you can refer to should you want to do it yourself. Hopefully you won't have to.

Thanks for the feedback guy's. Because I'm going to use two scopes on this. A compact NF and a SIII Sightron I need more length for eye relief location of scope. I can always convert to a drop out magazine
I'd prefer it if it was..
