Hi I'm being to reload 7mm Remington ultra magnum with Hornady 162 gr sst bullet and us 869 powder. Are there any good recipes for this combo? I can't seem to find any load data for this. Thanks!

Re: 7mm rum reloading
Hi Chris, book max is 103 grains for 3200fps which is about what I got when I experimented with this. I was not that impressed with the accuracy or ES so I went back to H1000 due to its uniform properties.

The RUM can be a bit of a handful when it comes to load experimentation. Make sure the rifle is epoxy bedded before you start, make sure the trigger is light at crisp. make sure you use a sling and hold the rifle properly, not like all the other kiddies at the range with their crossed arm nonsense. Your rifle has a short barrel life so you can't muck around too much with load work. So often a finicky rifle will take us to 200 rounds during load work but in the 7mm RUM, that only leaves you with 400 rounds of barrel life before it potentially starts to go south.

Do your basic load work with this bullet, 3 shot groups, half grain increments to 3300fps. If nothing shows in the accuracy department, ditch the SST and move to the 175gr ELD-X, then start over. You have no room for seating depth experimentation in this rifle so no point mucking around with this unless you want to single feed. Just stick the the basics and shoot. The book series can help a great deal if you have not already started with these.
