JLK Bullets

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience shooting JLK bullets on game? I have been shooting 162gr SSTs and 168gr VLDs in my 7mm Rem Mag to good effect. And I have just bought some 162gr Amax to test also.

However after reading various reports of VLDs failing to perform (hence my purchase of Amax) I looked at the 168gr JLKs. They state on their site that they use the same J4 jacket that Berger used in their original design. So from this info can I assume that a JLK bullet will perform like a pre 2011 Berger?

I have the opportunity to purchase some JLKs next month, so any info will be appreciated.

I am also going on a Barbary Sheep hunt next month, so I really don't want my bullet to fail to do its job, although I don't think I'll have the JLKs in my possession by then. So for the Barbary hunt it's a toss up between SST/Amax/VLD...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: JLK Bullets
I haven't tried them yet sorry Josh, they sound like they might be a go- similar to the matrix bullets I talked about in the Cartridges book.

Just keep in mind that the 162gr SST, A-MAX or ELD will be fine for your needs. Also keep in mind that the 175gr EDL-X may suit you very well (if its available soon). I quite often find that the 7mm Rem Mags (including 1:9.5 twist) go really well with a longer slower bullet making load work much easier. This bullet is in effect a 175gr A-Max but with the (near insignificant) interlock ring. I don't like to use the word 'should' (unqualified) very often but I believe this should (or will) fit the bill nicely.

Re: JLK Bullets
Thanks for the reply Nathan.

I'll get some of the JLKs next month and give them a go. Their website says that they are suitable for hunting, so I assume they should be OK.

I'll report back after I've had some experience with them if its of interest.

In regard to the ELD/ELD-X, I live in the UK so we don't have them just yet. Shouldn't be too long though. A streamlined 175gr Amax/SST is certainly an exiting proposition. We have tipped MKs and ABLRs available, but I've not tried either yet.

With all this new competition coming to market, coupled with proliferation of bad press, I assume we will see an update from Berger in the not to distant future. A tipped hunting bullet perhaps?
