Lane SalvatoInteresting BC for the 270 caliber in the Nosler Accubond LR. It's nice to see that a few companies are making higher BC bullets for the 270. BC of 0.625 for the 150 grain bullets. Not as good as the 7 mm or 308 but still getting up there. |

Nathan FosterRe: Nosler Accubond LR for 270 WinchesterYes, this one works OK. Still its funny business. Nosler know that for extended range work, the BT is their optimal design. But here we see the anti of this- the adoption of core bonding, creating a stouter bullet. And so they are forced to approach this with what I call a cheat method, raising the BC in the hopes that low velocity will never actually be encountered. This then puts Nosler in the position of being able to say the LRAB does not "blow up" to appease the uninformed masses wanting maximum weight retention (though this bullet does shed a lot of weight in close) while having some reach.Used out to extended ranges on reasonable body weights, this bullet works fine and does have merit. That said, the .270 cal (now nearly a century old) is still vastly misunderstood and under supported. There is a big difference between getting away with a bullet design versus a truly optimal long range design. But again, few bullet makers fully understand this. And among those that do, some choose to ignore the facts and focus on customer trends and marketing rather than optimal game killing. |

Can you imagine if one bullet manufacturer would concentrate on an optimal long range design for the 270? BC, weight shedding, etc.? Maybe promote its use with a slightly faster twist rate? It would be a beautiful thing! |
