Marlin 30-06 for Longrange?

Looking at getting a new rifle and always the budget concious one woundered if anyone has had a go at this.

I like the versatility of the 30-06 cartridge and have heard only good things about the Marlin but not sure if it is accurate enough to stretch the legs out a bit to the 600 to 700 mark.

Any one tried this or got any ideas

Cheers Phil

If you search the long range hunting sites, I don't think you will see the name Marlin pop up to many times. When it comes to the "budget conscious" shooter, Savage seems to be at the top of the list. You also get the bonus of pre-threaded chambered barrels for the long range shooter that don't cost a fortune. Pac-Nor is one of a few makers.

Hi Philip, one of our site readers has just finished tricking up a Marlin. He bought a Boyds stock, honed and fine tuned the trigger very carefully, bedded the rifle (.30-06). It now prints all bullet holes touching at 100 yards.

The premise was as you have suggested, a long range rifle on a budget. It took a bit of time and effort but was worth it.
