Powders for Fireforming

Since I read the Practical Guide to Reloading I've been on the lookout for Trail Boss powder and have had no luck acquiring any. I have a brand new box of Lapua brass that I want to do right by. I do have other brass I can keep tinkering with. Should I hold out for some Trail Boss? Are there other powders that would function similarly?

I fire formed just using my normal powder at book minimum and just used cheap projectiles. Also after consulting Nathan I have worked up a load while fireforming and just double checked it afterwards and tweaked it up from there. Kill two birds with one stone scenario

Min loads work spot on!

If you want to mess around with a slow load 2206H is the most versatile l have found. Youth or training loads work great at around 70% of book max charge for the given pill weight. We use them for barrel run in, training, plinking or ferals inside 100 with great effect!
You may be surprised how accurate these loads can end up. This way they get put to good use rather than just fire form a case.

Re: Powders for Fireforming
Thank you, gentlemen. Minimum loads are easy enough and I have some powders on hand I haven't experimented with yet. Looks as though the 4895s are our closest equivalent to 2206H and I do think that will be easier to get my hands on than the Trail Boss right now if I want to try another powder - which I eventually will.

One of the suppliers I use shows Vihtavuori Tin Star available on their site. It's very expensive. Anyone know if that would be similar to Trail Boss? The appeal of the Trail Boss was doing some experimenting with lower speed rounds.

H4895 & 2206H are one in the same made here in OZ by Thales ADI, which l confirmed with them years ago.

The youth loads l started with where from the Hodgdon site, it has the ability to work in a large range of calibres big & small and remain stable.
