Oh dear. I see what you mean. It's too late now but I'll ring Nathan in the morning and let him know. The Nets got a few idioms tonight? Weird!

Re: Trying to order bedding products
Hi Mark, we closed the pages just before Christmas as a temporary measure.

Why?

All was going well over the past couple of years but then suddenly during November, some packages went missing in the mail. We contacted our local courier and he then discovered that at their company was employing some "system" that would dispense some parcels to NZ post. The ones that went with NZ post went missing. Worse still, one of our Alaskan customers (Gerry posts on this forum) received about 3K worth of another product as NZ post had put their own consignment labels over the packages and got ours mixed up with another customer. In the mean time a modelling company in NSW Oz ended up with Gerry's bedding kits.

So off we went to find a new courier company just before Xmas. In NZ, we have three choices- DHL, TNT and Toll. All have similar price shedules. Each require that you negotiate an account and bust your balls trying to haggle prices down. The only company that managed to follow through with us was TNT, though I am still not happy with international prices.

The shipping prices (example to the U.S) are in reality the same as what we would normally pay if shipping from the U.S to here (UPS). But to be brutally honest, we already had complaints from the occasional U.S users, those who had never purchased anything from outside of the U.S. These emails could be extremely offensive.

In summary, we managed to re-send the lost kits a few days before xmas with TNT. The current service is super fast, we are talking just a few days to any location. But we closed the shopping pages as we both found this period of time to be immensely stressful and needed a break.

The cost of sending one kit international is expensive. Two kits are much more economical. Oddly enough, bulk shipping is very cheap- cheaper than what we could do before. We can ship up to 15 kits this way. If we ship more, we run into dangerous goods surcharges (but is still somewhat inexpensive). But before anyone suggests that we bulk ship to an agent, just keep in mind that we have to get our heads around how we would actually do this- it is currently just Steph and I (mostly Steph) at the moment doing all of this work and assembling your kits, making sure everything is in perfect order.

We will reopen the pages as soon as I have integrated the new shipping matrix. I also want to upload the actual pricing schedule from TNT so you can each download it and read it through. Just keep in mind that it will take a bit of time because I have to make sure that the kit shipping prices do not interfere with book shipping prices (books shipped from the publisher).

On the plus side, even with increased shipping costs, you will each still have access to myself for as long as I can manage to help buddy you along. Furthermore, the current shipping service is ultra reliable and very fast.

I will re-try both DHL and Toll mid January once their sales staff return from holidays.

New Zealanders can simply email their orders through at present. None of the above has any impact on local orders or pricing.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
Wow.... Makes it hard to run a business when you are let down to that extent. I hope that you can get compensation from the courier company. Although I fear the compensation would be limited to the value of the postage.

I would like to order 2 for end and 1 bedding kit when possible. After messing around in the past looking for cheap options I have realised that your solution is well thought out, effective, and provides peace of mind that the product is going to do the job.

Looking forward to a fast delivery, last order took longer than expected. In fact I emailed to ensure to had been sent. Hope the new contract works out for both you and the client base.

Thanks

Re: Trying to order bedding products
I should mention, if it was not for Gerry sending pics through, we would never have known about the kits ending up in the NZ post system. Gerry was very patient and I was able to show the pics to our previous local courier which then prompted him to find out what was happening. I believe this passing on of packages can be common if you are not dealing directly with one of the three main providers I mentioned before. It has been a major learning curve for us. Just a pity it happened during this time period.

Anyway, the best I can do is to pass on an honest account here in the forums so that everybody is well informed.

Geezers Nathan. You are an amazing bloke. You're the only chap I know that will push the River back upstream in the quest for excellent customer service! Next week you'll be bending Gravity? You can only do so much with these issues and people need to get used to the effects of their global growth and keeping to realistic expectations and demands? You have a great product and the best follow up with live support so please don't feel that you have let anyone down. It is what it is. Thanks man. YOU TOO Steph.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
Thanks Warwick and Mark for your understanding.

Its funny (or not) the things that stress us out. My greatest stress is not wanting to let others down and to provide the very best for everyone. I know that in business, it is important to avoid being a people pleaser to the point that the entire premise is counter productive. But on the other hand, without persistence and sacrifice, we would never have created the KB or any of what you see here. Furthermore, when you genuinely put effort into helping people, people respond in kind. However, as you say Warwick, there is only so much we can give and do.

This probably sounds a bit left field but when things get really tough and the mail and phone calls etc seems relentless, I go out into the paddock, I sit down and count from 30 to zero to clear my head, then when I reach that moment when I am no longer answering gun questions etc in my mind, I simply focus on how grateful I am to all of you and just sit with that for a bit. When I get that clear picture in my mind, I rest for a bit, then return to reality revitalized. I don't think I could actually do what I do without this process.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
So judging by the matrix it should be 2-3 working days for delivery to Gold Coast/Brisbane. That's a good turn around time.

Looks like pricing for Express export will be slightly cheaper than Economy Express export if I am reading this correctly, 3kg weight.

Bloody shipping costs are driving the prices of a lot of products up. Not sure how China manages to ship some products so cheaply. Must be government subsidized. Look at how many items on ebay are free shipping.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
Its tough when you as a business depend on another business and they f the dog when your name is on the finished product.
As a US customer, yes it would be easier and cheaper for me to buy if you had a distributor carying your kits in the US. Hopefully somehow an opportunity to do so will come up at some point, i would think the US would/could be a big market for you.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
I agree with John, do the maths with agent stock. Reduced shipping costs, top up orders to maintain stock at agents. Reduced shipping cost from agent to customer making the end product more attractive and a margin for the agent. Other positive from your perspective is a cash injection as the agent stocks up.

Several ways to do this but each way creates more of an exposure for your business. I know of two people in Aus that would be ideal for this.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
I'm sure that the product has many other uses? How would it be for alloy boat repairs gluing timber, concrete, tiles, flow filling cracks and gaps. As a water pipe thread sealer hose to tail fitting sealer......? I'm just throwing it out there! Look at the Wright brothers using bicycle cement to glue the propeller nuts on the Wright flyer.? Increase your sales by finding new avenues and uses? Just saying. As for the freight issues do what Ebay did and set up your own small volume freight forward company? When I was in the Cook islands fixing fishing boats I needed parts from NZ it was going to cost crazy $$$ for the freight until I was told that a group of island companies had one of those big alloy air freight boxes booked on one flight every day and between them it was a very affordable price and they always got what they needed delivered? I just did a Goggle search for "international freight forward companies NZ . Plenty of them to contact.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
Hi all,

Nathan, really sorry to hear about so many issues being the reason for changing couriers... Especially this time of the year. The idea of bulk orders becomming cheaper is interesting..

I think it's a safe to say I will buy some in the future (no rush) but if you are interested, theres a shop or two I would like to speak to and see if they would be interested in keeping some of your products. They import most, if not all of their products so they should be used to making shipping arrangements.

Not sure if this would add unnecessary pressure on you guys to make up larger orders, so just let me know if you would like me to have a chat on this side. Would be a pleasure to help you guys.

All the best

Cor

Even though this whole process of mislabled packages has not reached its final conclusion for me. I would not hesitate to place another order with Nathan. His willingness to step up and make things right is inspiring.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
Thanks guys I will need time to work through this. I still have to wait for all of these companies (and our own site provider) to finish their break so I can sort everything out. Plus I need a break myself as much as I want to have this resolved immediately.

Re: Trying to order bedding products
i know that being a people pleaser may not be ideal financially but i think you would struggle to find a company with a client base that has such respect and gratitude towards Nathan and Steph that most of us have.

it'a good to find something to relieve stress a lot of people learn this far to late, my dad use to sit down for 15min on his way home from work to unwind before walking into to a house with 5 kids to deal with.

not sure if there's a local company that you guys could team up with when dealing with a courier company the more you send the better the price, so it might be beneficial for both companies.

what a shame about last courier welcome to the modern world got to love technology.
anyway im sure you'll find a solution

Re: Trying to order bedding products
OK, up and running again. I hope I have the matrix all correct.

The new service is very fast, Got kits to Gerry in Alaska in record time (finally).

And ironically- TNT is being purchased by Fedex so we will be shipping with an agent that U.S customers and the rest of us are familiar with.

Phew....finally.
