Proper use of a Rifle Sling

Hello All
I'm just getting back into shooting after a long while and have been researching "sling" use. I always used a sling back in the day but need a refresher course so to speak. I couldn't say I used a sling properly or not, but, with the internet there is so much info out there about sling use I'm curious what technique you guys/gals use and for what purpose?
I'm just shooting paper now and we can only use a bench at my local range so no prone, no standing, no sitting shooting stance allowed:(
Eventually I'd like to hunt for Elk and Deer, so mountainous terrain is the norm where I'd be hunting. I won't be using a bipod(I don't like them honestly) so would really be relying on the sling as well as natural objects; trees, fence posts, rocks and not so natural objects; backpacks, jackets, etc to steady my aim.
Thanks so much
Cheers

Thomas I have a lot of reading to catch up on just on this site and I just ordered Nathans "The Practical Guide To Bolt Action Rifle Accurizing And Maintenance". Hopefully I'll catch up before the release of his next book
Cheers

Re: Proper use of a Rifle Sling
hi chuck.
your last reply ended up in my email for some reason.
yes i do use a sling after reading Nathans article wither i do it the right way im not hundred percent sure but i try to use it the best i can.
im hoping to get taught by the master himself once the weather settles a bit but until then im looking forwards to the new book.

you'll really enjoy that book and i can guarantee you'll be off to hard ware store, etc to stock up on few things after reading it.

Learning from a master is always worth the wait, enjoy!
I'm lucky to have a few hardware stores minutes from my house ...I like hardware stores, there's always something I need in them
If someone would only combine a hardware store with a grocery store I'd be set!
I gave the article a once thru last night and will read again tonight for it to sink in:), lots of good and interesting stuff
