john feyereisnI picked up a new to me mod 700 in 270w a few months ago, i havent shot it much yet other than very briefly. I have been wanting to do a full load workup for it and now i finally am getting time to do it this week. I am departing from my usual old standby powders and 130s, i bought a pound of the new imr 7797 to try with various 150 grain bullets and 160 partitions. We will see if the velocity gains in the manuals hold true to real life. It should work in my 7 rem mag as well, but we will find that out later. On a side note, i think i said on here a couple months ago that i would be shooting in the "next couple weeks" but a few home projects got out of hand haha. But they are done now :) |

Bryan WebsterRe: Departure from the usual for me. New powder for old favoriteI noted the new IMR powders are available where I am too but have not read much in the way of people's results with them, so am quite interested in any posts on your findings for IMR 7797. |

Nathan FosterRe: Departure from the usual for me. New powder for old favoriteJust running this through the Practical now. Not sure if its really that good yet. Using 2 grains less than would normally be used with H1000 / 2217 for equal velocities. That puts the burn rate slightly faster than H1000 but slower than H4831sc / 2213sc.I can see the merit of this in some of the inbetweeners. Could work well in the .25-06. Would not be my first choice for the .270 Win, but perhaps good in the WSM. You may have to run the .270 to compressed loads to get the best out of this. |

john feyereisnRe: Departure from the usual for me. New powder for old favoriteTime will tell, i will break it out of the bedding and finish it tommorow night. This rifle has generous freebore, which should work in my favor having full case capacity to work with. Or, it will be crap, and i will have to go back to imr 4350 I may try it in my 7 rem mag as well, but i have a good load with 7828 already. |
