Can Tikka T-3 CTR bottom metal be retrofitted to standard T-3?

The new magazine on the Tikka T-3 CTR looks interesting. Is it the same as a TRG magazine? What would the max COAL be for this magazine?

I have a Tikka T-3 Tactical in .308W and I am going to get a GRS Sporter/Varmint stock for it soon (and have it bedded by my gunsmith). Does anybody know if it would be possible to fit a CTR bottom metal on a non-CTR Tikka?

Hi Bert, I have passed your question on to Dan at Reloaders Supplies NZ. If they have this rifle in stock and if Dan has time, he may be able to give you an accurate answer.

Regarding the bedding of your rifle, please make sure that your smith utilizes the methods described in the bedding section of this site. There is no room for other methods when it comes to bedding the T3. The lug set up is absolutely critical. A vast number of smiths and shooters fail to understand this, completely ruining accuracy potential. This also included the use of aftermarket tight fit lugs which can sometimes work- but just as easily introduce new problems. Don't be shy about this- ask questions. If your smith does not answer appropriately or is unwilling to discuss the subject openly, walk away.

Hello Nathan, thank you for your reply.

The smith is a very good one. But I don't know how much experience he has with the Tikka T-3. I have your e-books and I will use the information from your books to discuss the bedding job with the smith.

hi bert
after reading your post i done a little bit of research as i was wondering if the ctr bottom metal could be modify for the trg42 magazine for the magnum tikkas, don't think its possible.
how ever came across these http://www.atlasworxs.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=11 its bottom metal that will accept the accuracy internal mags which may be a cheaper option.
one of the forum members used one of there straight replacement ones that accept the standard tikka mags on his rifle. it may be worth a read for you http://www.ballisticstudies.com/Resources/Discussion+Forums/x_forum/17/page/3/search//thread/3925.html

hopefully i haven't confused you more about your build.

Nathan if you read this they also do one to accept the magnum length aic mags not sure on c.o.a.l of magazine yet thou

Hello Thomas, thank you for your reply.

There are several offerings for a Tikka bottom metal replacement that will accept AICS mags. The one from AtlasWorx certainly looks nice. I am not really in a hurry to replace the magazine on my Tikka. I have a custom bolt stop from Roedale in it so that it can be used with Tikka L-magazines that accept longer cartridges (.30-06). This gives me a lot of room for long seating bullets (I intend to do the load development at jam minus 0.020"). Until now the plastic Tikka magazines have been perfectly reliable for me. However, if there would exist a possibility to easily modify my Tikka to accept quality double stack 10 round magazines of reasonable length, I would certainly consider it.
