Hi All haven't posted for ages but still view site regularly. Anyway to cut a long story short went to town last week to go to physio for a bung elbow and ended up bringing home a new toy to play with. How did that happen wasn't part of the plan when I left home ???.Oh well shit happens .Anyway the rifle is a B S A CF2 IN 30-06 Ackley Improved 22"barrel .Bore looks good & is overall in good condition for age.I want to reload 208g a-max to see how she goes .If you read this Nathan what ADI powder & charges would you suggest. Will be using fireformed privi brass & WLR primers. Cheers .
Honestly I couldn't help myself it looked so sad & lonely next to all those shiny plastic ones.

Re: New Toy
Hi Tony, hopefully you have not fired a shot yet. If so, please consider returning the Highland ammo and purchasing Win ammo for fire forming. This will give you a tougher case and increased case capacity.

I do not know what throat length you are running so best to stick along book guide lines and try to work up to around 56gr 2209 during formative work, then work up from there.

Am guessing the sweet spot for this rifle will be around 2600fps. There will be quite a bit of recoil torque so the rifle will need to have a good bedding job.

If your mag length is 84mm, you will need to seat to 83mm, putting the beginning of the bullet ogive right at the case mouth. Max COAL may be around 86-87mm but the long bullet will be guided into the lands without fuss, regardless of the 2-3mm jump.

If you have an 86mm magazine and seat to 85mm, things will be a bit easier and you won't have to seat that long bullet right down into the case body.

Whether the mag is 84mm or 86mm, you will have room to experiment but you cannot try drop tubes and trickle feeding slow burning powder like 2213sc simply because the case capacity is well reduced due to the length of the bullet in traditional length magazines. Please don't see this as a negative. Have fun with this, experiment, see what happens.

Please be careful when undoing action screws and doing them up again- this can place huge strain on your elbow. Please take care of your elbow, this project can wait if need be. If you go bush in the interim, please consider injecting Onga Onga (young nettle) into the joint at the site of the pain. I have made up a video of this but need to splice it into some other footage at some stage.
