Hey Sharp Shooter's. What do you use to clean up your cases is it worth buying a case tumbler? I'm thinking of making one. just like a miniature concrete mixer. Using a car wiper motor at 45 degree angle with a small bowl mounted on the shaft? What do you all think?

Re: CASE TUMBLERS
Lol or I can mount a bucket with a lid in my lathe and set it going and let it tumble them clean? I forgot that I have a lathe!

Re: CASE TUMBLERS
Hi Warwick
I have one but don't use it.
I just give them a light rub with scotch guard. Once a year or so I put a case holder in my drill and a bit of rag with a light polishing compound, they come up like jewels.
It pays to keep them nice and clean while hunting as any grit will soon stuff a case when its fired.
Cheers

Re: CASE TUMBLERS
Hi, I get a lot of old brass and being a frugal SOB, I hate to waste anything. My tumbler is a Lortone with a drum type that holds a lot of brass (6 quart?). I use Stainless Steel media to tumble with a little lemon cleaner added to the water and the brass looks better than new. The primer pockets are and inside the cases are CLEAN. If you look at Lortones, these could easily be duplicated. The motor that runs mine is tiny but is geared to turn the drum at a fairly slow speed. Not sure how much brass you are tumbling but but my unit has paid for itself a few times over. Shiny brass sure turns heads at the gun club.. I now tumble brass for a few people at the gun club for $$. The Stainless steel media will outlast me. You have to be careful about getting all of it out of the cases afterwards. A strong magnet will find the culprits.

A friend of mine got a 55 gallon drum of military brass and polished it in a cement mixer with the paddles cut out. I have seen them made out of just about everything. A YouTube search will turn up more than a few.

Re: CASE TUMBLERS
Hey thanks guys I'll give a bucket in the lathe a go simple and easy to use. I was tempted to try some in the dishwasher and see how they come up? I will put a handful of PMC CASES in and see how clean and shiny they end up. Worth a shot eh!

Re: CASE TUMBLERS
Bought a Frankfort Arsenal Case Tumbler kit for $67.00 Canadian, some brass polish and ground up walnut shells. Works extremely well for my needs, and is reasonably quiet as well.

Some people I know really like the big Lyman case tumblers as well for larger amounts of brass, however this one easily handles 50 to 80 .308 brass and cleans dirty stuff in about an hour or so.[b]

Re: CASE TUMBLERS
Well I got a small 2.5 litre bucket with a good clip on lid. I cut three lengths of square dowel and screwed them evenly spaced onto the inside. I brought some fine crushed walnut shells
Filled bucket 2/3rds with walnut shell dropped in 20 cases and a wee drop of car polish clipped the lid on and said " oh well here's to Kiwi ingenuity "!
Mounted it in the three jaw chuck of the lathe with a safety cord tied on for insurance. Selected low gear and turned it on.! My American neighbour arrived at his shed came over and said. Your tumbling case's I know that sound! All of my brass is clean and shining now.
