6mm loads

Hi All,

I've recently purchased a 6mm remington. Its based on an old brno vz24 action with a douglas premium barrel. I think it was custom built back in 1969 because on the underside of the barrel its got C&B 10 69 - for us in new zealand - c & b is collins & bradley. Absolutely love the slick action - I think its better than my newish winchester m70 crf.

Anyway, my question for Nathan or anyone is what powder will be best suited and how hard can i push the old girl? Its got 26" on her at the moment but I will get that chopped back to 24 ,would like to go 22 but that would dullify the old girl too much possibly?

I've gotsome 95gr nosler partitions on order, ive already got ar2209 which I use for my .270 so I'm hoping to use that.

Look forward to the reply(s) and appreciated it.

Grant

Re: 6mm loads
Hi grant
I've been shooting a 6mm rem for many years, I've used 100gn partitions but I use 100gn Sierra game kings, shot a lot of pigs and Deer up to Red Deer size with no problems. My first rifle had a 26" barrel, current one has a 24", I wouldn't go any shorter though.
These days I only shoot a 22 rim, 6mm Rem, 30-06, 358 Winchester and a shotgun.
cheers
Bob

Thanks for the reply Doug. At what distances were you using the GK? also what speeds? I'll get in touch with a local engineer and give the barrel a snip to 24"then.

I run the 100gn Sierra's at 3100fps on Fallow out to 400+ meters. I would use your rifle with the 26" barrel for a while, my first 6mm was 26" loved it. When the throat burnt out we cut it back to 24"
