Hi Nathan.
What are your thoughts on crimping as regarding accuracy. I've read conflicting info on the subject. Some say yay some say nay . Mostly interested in this applied to .308 win .

Re: To crimp or not to crimp. That is the question f
Hi Tony, I always crimp tube load- thats a given. It can also pay to crimp semi / full aucto rifles. But as for bolt gun, I run tight necks to begin with so there is no great need to crimp. Also, my brass can vary from below minimum to near maximum case length which means I would have to reset the crimp throughout the batch- no fun at all.

If you want to, try both. Check not only accuracy but also velocity spread (ES). In lieu of a tight neck, you may find that your crimped ammo has a lower (ES). You will also need to bear in mind, that if you crimp away from a bullet cannelure, you may cause a deal of bullet deformation if you get too heavy handed.

Thanks Nathan .I'll load a few batches to have a play with. If it ever stops raining up here I might even paddle out to my bench and get to shoot them. Also do you use bushing dies or have you polished an expander button to a smaller diameter than standard . If so what diameter did you take it to. Referring to .308 win.

Hi Tony, I use a variety of dies but my favorite .308 dies are actually a part of my Lyman 310 tool kit. The neck die is much like a Forster. It sizes the neck without using an expander button. This tool set came with two neck dies, one is a loose neck, one tight. The tight neck die brings the case down to .330" O/D. Once a bullet is seated, the diameter is .333". I would be equally happy if the die reduced the neck O/D (win brass) to .329".
