I'm interested in thoughts on the Christensen range of classic rifles, the carbon barrel looks interesting , but does anyone have experience of them ?

Hi Jit, only anectdotal reports with much negative reports from end users.

Sometimes I think those who make ultra light rifles are really shooting themselves in the foot because a very light rifle recoils more than a standard weight and if shooting technique is less than optimal, accuracy will be poor which can cause negative press. From this, it can be hard to decipher from anecdotal reports whether the rifles are at fault or the shooters.

The market for ultra light rifles is certainly very large. There is also large market for weed. Doesn't mean I want to get out and grow a crop though. Many gun makers would do themselves a great favor by returning to standard weight guns.

Take what you will from this- I do not have any actual experience with this rifle.

Hi Jit - haven't heard from you here in the forum for a while, hope you are OK. If you are still toying with the Christenson Carbon Fiber barreled rifle, one thing should should be aware of is dielectric corrosion. Unless Christenson has taken measures to protect against dielectric corrosion (the factory should be able to tell you) it is very severe when carbon fiber and steel are in close contact.

Still interested to learn why you sold the Blasers and if you have looked at the new Mauser M12 (also made by Blaser).

The blasers went because one was very a fine wood stock (grade 7) not really suitable for NZ style hunting and I really wanted a change to a bolt rifle suitable for a tough country and long range. I've always hankered after a custom or semi custom.
I've seen Hardy rifles made I which are locally made how are they rated?

The brochure for Christensen states the barrels are 100% weather proof. I would hope they've taken into account the corrosion issue. But then again I've not met anyone yet who has use one. Any other thoughts ? [b]

Carbon Fiber is 100% weather proof for sure! But unless special measures are taken to isolate the inner steel barrel from the outer carbon one this is a potential issue for long term durability. I would check with the factory and also talk to some owners who have had the rifle in service for a number of years, especially in oceanside (salt) environments.

Had a chance to shoot one chambered in a 300 mag a few years back. Heavy recoil and not that accurate at all. My old 7mag Sendero would shoot lights out against the Christensen. He kept the rifle about 3 months and sold it and bought a used first generation Sendero 300 mag. He was a happy camper after adding a muzzle brake.

Nice to hear about actual experience. I would agree that a lightweight rig with a magnum cartridge is a recipe for a flinch, I did use a tikka T3 varmint with a brake in win mag and found the recoil similar to that of my .308 Blaser.
I intend if I need to, fitting a suppressor or a brake . My own recoil limit is around a non braked 30-06 in a reasonable weight rifle.

Christensen say they provide a moa or 1/2 moa guarantee, and to be fair I've never owned a rifle that wasn't 1/2 moa and at least 1 which was a .25 moa.

I simply cant form any bond with a gun that's not only well made but also very accurate. [b]
