David LenziDoes anyone have a stateside lead for sourcing Weatherby actions outside of buying a factory gun?I have an inquiry in with their custom shop, but my expectations are low. Seekins is the only maker of rifles and actions I know of that will sell you their action separately. Aside: Weatherby are having a go at proper stock design, or at least Peak44 is on their behalf. The cheapest potential action source is their Mark V Hunter at $1500 or so. Awfully pricey (for an action). My only real quibbles with that gun are the overly short forend of the stock and the 1/2-28 threading on the barrel (necessitated by the light #2 contour). I suppose I could restock it and shoot it 'til I cook it. |

David LenziRe: Weatherby action sourcing (US)?To their credit, the custom shop did not delay their response. As expected, they do not sell serialized components apart from full rifles and their ability to accommodate customer requests is somewhat limited with respect to rifle features/models. |

Ed SybertRe: Weatherby action sourcing (US)?You can purchase Remington 700 actions through Brownell's:https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/rifle-receivers/remington-700-receiver-long-action-with-x-mark-pro-prod144033.aspx |

David LenziRe: Weatherby action sourcing (US)?At the risk of displaying snobbery...I would not buy a current/recent R700 action as a component when options like the Mack Bros, Zermatt Origin, and ARC Nucleus are out there for the asking. I would take the Howa as a budget option. The X-Mark Pro is also a NOGO for me. The Bergara Ridge is a more compelling option, less than $1000 for a barreled action is nice (assuming it shoots), even if I junk the stock. |
