Rifle: Tikka T3X Roughtech – 22.4” – .270 Win
Scope: Burris Fullfield IV 4x12x56
Bullet: 140 Accubond
Starline brass
LR primers
Powder: Win 760
Grains: 53.0
COAL: 3.320
3 shot groups @ 100 yards: .3”
5 shot group @ 100 yards: .5”

Tikka trigger: at its lowest setting was good to very good. Maybe 1.5 lbs and crisp.

This is my first Burris scope. Not an expensive scope. Risked purchasing it based on the exceptionally clear glass – comparable to my Leupold, Swarovski & previous Zeiss. I was a bit worried about how it would operate at the bench and downrange. No need. Performed flawlessly. Windage and elevation…audible clicks…bullet POI moved precisely per number of click adjustments. Down the road, should the need arise, I will purchase Burris again.

Win 760 may very well not be the most preferred but I liked what the 2 reloading manuals said, and, I had it in my inventory. Like the choice or not, the results speak for themselves. I was a bit surprised (just like I was with the scope) but very pleased. Rifle, scope, loads…all worked perfectly.

Recoil? The .270 Win in this rifle offers an excellent balance of very reasonable recoil and, IMHO, entirely competent terminal ballistics out to generous ranges…with bullets in this weight range. YMMV.

While not a 3-day, intense test of various loads, I thought these results worth mentioning. I am by NO means an advanced reloader. That said, I am slow and very meticulous. A lot of time and preparation work paid off yesterday. To say I am pleased would be an understatement.

When time permits I’ll be loading the 150 gr Partition – my hunting load preference.

Thanks for your time here.

Cheers.

Well done Daniel,

Those 150g partitions will be pretty awesome for everyday deer stalking once you get them going. Wish I could get my hands on some for a 270 I've been working on.

Thank you Jon.

The gentleman at the shop is good about calling me when things come in. I'll ask him to watch for the .277 150 gr Partitions. If they do come in and you want me to get a box for you - just let me know. (Assuming I can ship them to you??)

Cheers.

Daniele,

I have three of the inexpensive E1 Fulfield 3-9x40 scopes and the optical performance is excellent for the money. I don't know how they compare to Swaro and Zeiss but they easily compare to Leupold and Vortex scopes that cost 2-3 times the price. I don't know how they hold up yet--not enough heavy rounds through them. Some shooters don't like the very fine "floating" etched reticle though.

I had a brand new made in USA Burris several years back on a rifle that wouldn't shoot well. I set the rifle aside and recently determined the problem was the scope (fast focus eyepiece wobble). Burris replaced it with a newer made in Philippines model that I found to be optically superior to the old scope and the reticle illumination works better too so I can't complain about their warranty service.

Daniele (and Jon),

Keep your eyes on https://www.shootersproshop.com/. I just recently purchased some 150 gr. 277 Partition blems there (sold out again now). My bullets have a cannelure. At the time, the website specified they would not have a cannelure or band. My experience with shootersproshop is you can't trust the published cannelure/band information, and oftentimes, special run cannelure bullets are sold as blems.

Re: .270 Win test results
Cal,

Thanks for the update.

Wish I could say more...for sure...about the Burris. Can't. Not yet, but will down the road. Sure do like it tho. Glass, thru my eyes (20/20 vision), is VERY good and either comes so close or replicates the clarity of the scopes I mentioned earlier. Reticle is fine and really like the illumination.

Durability? I called Burris regarding upgrading my purchase. Rep was very generous with his time - treated me like a customer - not a number. He explained at length how their scopes were tested to 50 BMG standards and would not fail. Yes, this was a BURRIS rep, but his discourse was reassuring. We'll see...tho I am cautiously optimistic.

While on the phone, the rep also explained that the Fullfield IV line was every bit as durable as their Signature line and above. FWIW.

BTW, the Tikka is a keeper so the rifle is now with the 'smith having some weight added. The rifle on its own only weighs 6.5 lbs and has a significant muzzle jump. I can deal with that - as shown by my previous range results - but, getting older - prefer not to. Carrying a slightly heavier rifle, for me, is doable and well worth the change.

Cheers.

Daniel
