6.5-06 9 twist

Greetings from Texas!

I picked up a Remington 1903 Springfield action from a friend. He had already added a Montana 6.5 barrel, and it came with a nice wood stock, that needed inletting for the new barrel. However, the barrel is a 1-in-9" twist.

So am I out of luck if I want to use 140gr ELD-Ms and the like?

Hi, David. The “minimum recommended twist rate” is just that - a recommendation. A bit of keyholing/tumbling can be a good thing if accuracy doesn’t suffer. I’ve shot long-for-caliber bullets where the barrel twist is 1-rev-per-inch slower than the recommendation, with no keyholing. Depends on the individual gun, load.

Scott, that's kinda what I thought based upon reading, and also one of Nathan's videos. I have 129gr and 140gr bullets already that I use in my 6.5X55. Experiments to follow. -David

Here's how it turned out. I did the stock shaping and finishing myself.
