Muzzle up or down?

What's the best way to carry a rifle in the rain? Muzzle up, with tape over it? I forgot my objective lens cover last week, so I carried mine muzzle down. Does water seep around the bolt face and cartridge case of a chambered round? Is so, can it cause dangerous over-pressure? Thanks.

Close the bolt on a fired (in sized) case this will seal the chamber and ripe over the muzzle

Im right handed....when its persisting down with rain,my rifle is slung upside down muzzle forward under my left arm...the action and scope is protected by my arm.... any rain that gets onto rifle runs down toward muzzle.
the Duleys tried that sized case thing on one episode of NZHunter and still got water in the barrel. the other bonus of this way is the water runs out of and away from action rather than into it.

Thanks for the tips. Safety is my only concern. If the carbon fouling residue, which is water-soluble, gets wet, if seems like it would expand into a sludge and cause an unsafe condition. In the chamber and barrel.

Unfortunately the Dulleys don’t show exactly what happens I tested the fired case in the chamber with the hose and it is water tight. The Dulleys also claimed they took a rifle into Fiordland and didn’t clean it before the next trip and blamed that on a missed shot after that missed shot he walks out to the truck pulls rifle apart and claims there was foliage in barrel channel they showed the target before the clean it was off the point of aim but still a tight group. If the bit of foliage was causing a miss of about 2” the harmonics would be out causing an increase in group size. Also they sat the rifle with the bolt out to “dry” before they took the shot I also tested this at 18degrees for 3 hours and there was still drops of water in the bore. I find them to be slightly full of shit. They do on the other hand do good work helping manage game animals

Re: Muzzle up or down?
Thanks. I think I'll try sealing the gap between the ejection port and the bolt with a little grease, and maybe some around the bolt shroud as well.
