Ching Sling?

I've read a couple of US rifle books that like the Ching sling - where a third swivel is installed just forward of the bottom metal to add a short strap that has a sliding connection to the sling, with an adjustable stop. Ir's supposed to give very good sling tension with a sling that can be used for both carrying and shooting without adjustment. Its quite easy to DIY (particularly with webbing & webbing clips).

Has anyone sued one, and how did it perform?

Re: Ching Sling?
Good for snap shooting Michael, not so good for prone over a day pack with short forend rifles because it creates the hand sandwich condition I write about in the 'hold that forend' article. This occurs if the hand is forced forwards by the middle stud.

So it comes down to rifle usage. The sling will suit some folk and inhibit others.

One of the simplest rigidity fixes I have ever seen, can from a friend who simply re-mounted the front sling stud at 45 degrees, rather than under the forend. Total game changer with such a simple change.

Re: Ching Sling?
Thanks Nathan,

Still deciding whether I'll try one (after all, it would be easy to drop the middle strap and revert to ta standard sling).

I take it the guy you're talking about just moved the sling swivel 45 degrees to the left with the same distance to the fore-end?

Cheers,

Michael

Re: Ching Sling?
There is also a new version of the ching, I believe it is called the Safari Ching Sling. Instead of 3 attachment points, a loop is attached to the front swivel which has the same (maybe better?) effect. Check out

Re: Ching Sling?
Thanks Michael,

Looks good - nearly the same physical effect of the Ching sling and doesn't need a third swivel (big plus on a synthetic stock IMO). Also works just ike a standard sling & looks easy to prototype in webbing. I'll certainly try this before the Ching sling.

Cheers,

Michael
