Woodleigh 180PP in .270 Winchester

I'm curious if anyone of you guys have ever used this bullet in a .270 win? I would think if a rifle's twist could shoot it well it would be some kind of Thumper on elk/big boar? I read somewhere that the Mod 700 .270 is a 9 1/2" twist. Can anyone confirm this, as I am not near my rifle right now? And if its not, but a 10", had anyone had the 180PP shoot OK? Thanks.

I use 170grn speer round noses in the mighty .270 winchester (no you cant have them Nathan) very limited supply of them left as havent been made for years....both they and lapua mega 160grn shoot very well in my mod 70 which has a 1 in 10" twist rate
never seen or even heard of a 180grn in .277
being round nose helps keep overall length down and puts projectile closer to rifling in my long throated rifle which might explain why they shoot so well, terminally they are awesome...I save them for my up close n personal bush loads when carrying the old rifle.

The Remington 700 should be 1 in 10 twist That is pretty much the standard twist rate for that cartridge. There are some rifles with 1 in 12 though.[b]

That had to be a misprint, no problem though. I have the 160 NP I'm going to try before I look for heavier. I don't "need" heavier, I just like them, ha. I like to load very light to medium Monos and medium/heavy cup n core bullets. New school to Old school, I enjoy it all. thanks guys! Jim

Still, I'd love to hear from anyone who has loaded this bullet and/or ever used it on game? My old 35 Whelen AI had a 1/16" twist and I shot the 310 Woodleigh just fine! In playing with the old Marlin 1/38" twist 45-70, I learned that "speed is a slow twist's friend", but man did the recoil hurt! ha

I have loaded 180RN (original) Barnes .277 diameter bullets for my Remington. A load of 52.5gr of H4831 (old powder lot) and it "clocked" right at 2550fps out of my 22" Rem 700C, 1:10" twist barrel. I never shot anything but "paper" with them and have about 35 left. They were quite accurate in my rifle at that speed, but not so much any faster, at least with that powder. I also have about that many 170 Speer left in my inventory in the old "yellow" cardboard box.

Thanks Kenneth. I was mainly curious as to how they shot in a 10" twist. that helps. :)
