What weight for custom build rifle?

Garrett PasqualeHi guys need some advice.I am going to get 7mm blaser mag built and need to know what weight to go for to make recoil manageable. This will be a tops rifle and used for multi day missions. Was hoping not to use a muzzle break, suppressor or bipod. 26 inch barrel. Would 3.6 to 3.8 kg without scope be manageable? Thanks Garrett |

Chris MurphyRe: What weight for custom build rifle?Hi Garrett I have experimented with weight in my 7mm Practical got down to 4.3kg and this I think is the absolute limit for me staying accurate bearing in mind I am shooting 200+ rounds per month testing clients rifles and my own shooting and hunting. My practical now sits at 4.6kg but for someone only shooting a handful of rounds per month 5kg will be better weight. The other thing that is probably more important is stock design a good straight stock with plenty of fore end to hold onto |

Andrew MurrayRe: What weight for custom build rifle?Hi GarrettThe best advice I can give is read Nathan's books. Especially the shooting and rifles book. For you these will provide in depth information. The question you have asked has many more variables than would appear on the surface. My 308 weighs just under 5kg (with scope) and it's no trouble to carry around all day with a pack. I am not a fit or big guy by any stretch. As you can imagine recoil is very manageable. But again, stock design, how you hold the rifle, your charge and other factors will affect the felt recoil. Weight is simply one among many factors. |
