Has anyone used the boyds at one or pro varmint stocks, what were your opinions of them?

On a side note, they have a rapid fire sale on now with a lot of good priced stocks.
I scrolled through 36 pages, on the 2nd last page i found a the one and only stock i was looking for, for $75us. Which is great because its under the $100 international shipping limit.
So if your looking for a boyd stock from outside the u.s. now might be a chance.

Not really. I just got a friend in the States to get it apply for permits and ship it to me. PBT couriers have a service that does it on there website. NZpost had something too. Any company that offer freight forwarding should be able to get it here. It just takes time, money and patience. I think it ended up costing about $200 NZ landed here.

Re: Boyds stocks
I have several rifles in Boyd's Pro Varmint stocks. I like them a lot.
I just bedded a Vanguard 7mm Rem Mag in a Pro Varmint. It made managing the recoil noticeably easier right from the first shot.
I also have a Savage Model 12 FCV .223 Rem, Savage HBSS BMag and a Ruger American Rimfire all in Pro Varmint stocks.
I'm currently have a Savage 111 .300 WM Long Range Hunter at the gunsmith being bedded in a Pro Varmint.

Chris, your obviously a fan of the Pro Varmint. How do you find the butt hook, looks like it would make rear rest positioning more difficult?

Hi Ben,

Christopher is right about reduced recoil with Boyd’s laminate stocks. Part of this is because of better stock configuration, but mostly it is due to the greater density, and hence weight, of laminates.

I have a couple of Boyd-stocked rifles and am thrilled with them. Very attractive, beautiful fit, and quite functional. Just remember, with the weight of a heavy barrel, big heavy scope, and laminate stock, you might find yourself lugging 11 pounds.

Contrary, I have seen the H-S Precision stocks identical to the ones used on Remington Sendero, for sale online for as low as $171 USD. These are fiberglass and aluminum core stocks.

Been thinking of a boyd for a Tikka T3 7mm Rem Mag that may fall back in my lap because it is too much of a brute for a younger man. It sure could use the weight... Anyone done that specific rifle in a boyd?

Thanks John, I do like the boyds' stocks I already have 2 a rimfire varmint and a classic, and today just received another classic in the post, only took 9 days to arrive from the u.s.

My T3 varmint is around 10.4lbs in the factory stock, the weight of the rifle feels normal to me so 11lb would probably be ok.

I quite like the HS-P stocks, I have one sitting here I picked up 2nd hand a while back for a future setup...
Trouble is i'm a lefty so finding stocks can be a pain as well as international postage.

I've been contemplating a new stock on my 338wm t3 varmint of late.
Probably the best stock I can find is the Bell and Carlson target/competition, but it requires a lot of modification to fit left hand bolt, long action and standard t3 bottom metal, it only comes to fit the r/h ctr models.

The B&C M40 stock only needs to be modified for the left hand bolt but has a bit of drop at the heel.
Boyds Pro Varmint is the other stock I like the look of, im not sure about the butt hook though.

Re: Boyds stocks
I recently got one of these: http://www.formriflestocks.co.uk/stocks/centurion
I am really pleased with it, they claim that all their stocks come with a precision fit that is much better than Boyds. They need to be mind you because they are a lot more money. I didn't bother with the adjustable LOP but I have the adjustable comb and its really good, It can be adjusted in a second to go from a standing to prone shot, and it feels really good quality. (I know that we have all been shooting for years without adjustable combs but.....) I had to do a tiny bit of sanding in the barrel channel close to the knox to get a perfect fit and it has been excellent from there. The checkering is good and the studs feel solid and secure.

All in all I'm very happy...[]

Re: Boyds stocks
Nice Tom.

I was checking over a boyds' classic I recently bought. Weight is 1174 grams, and the drop at the heel is around 15mm (measured from the centre of the bore), for comparison the factory plastic marlin xl7 stock is 987 grams (stabilised and bedded) drop at heel is 25mm. I also have here a fibreglass stock with alloy block for a rem700 s.a. I thought it was a hs precision but it may actually be a bell and Carlson, its weight is 1014 grams and drop at heel is 12mm.

I think the boyds' classic would be a great long range stock if it had a varmint style beavertail forend.

I don't notice the butt hook. It has been an advantage on steep uphill shots by allowing the butt to sit lower on a rear bag.
I broke in my 300 WM in the Pro Varmint over this past weekend. I can't imagine it being any more comfortable with any other stock.

Re: Boyds stocks
That's great Christopher! certainly a very positive endorsement.
Do you have the boyds 1/2" rubber butt pad on the 300wm or have you got a limbsaver etc? how is the rifle grouping?

Re: Boyds stocks
Yes just the standard 1/2" butt pad.
It consistently groups under .5 MOA with factory 200gr Eld-X at 100yds.
I'm stuck with factory ammo until after hunting season. Deer opens Saturday for me and elk opens on the the 26th.
I ran 10rds through the Magnetospeed at lunch today.
Tomorrow I have time for trajectory validation.

Hey guys I'm sure that the Enfields 😨brass stock plate will fit a Boyds laminate and shine up quite nicely with some manly shoulder buffing action 😊.

Re: Boyds stocks
Christopher, are all your boyds stocks the black painted versions?

I have read a few comments of people saying their painted boyds seem to be made out of a softer laminate compared to the standard multi-colored laminates which are quite hard. Have you noticed this also?
