Gripsurface ...not a good thing on restbags...

Hello
I previously had this stock on my old TikkaMaster and have now fitted it for my latest Tikka T3x .
All vent well with the carving/fitting and bedding , but when I was to shoot it over sandbags that I have learned through Nathan's book, it was a disappointment...
The gun now produced stringer/doublegroping in the 35mm range ...Hell ...
I was just about to go home and rebed or change back to the orginal plastic stock that shooting true , when I tested prone with bipod and overhandgrip , and voila...severral 3-4 groops in 10-15mm /100m .

Even tried the bipod on the bench , same thing 15mm....
Then on bag again ... 35mm....what a hell...

I now realize that hat it's the sand-grip on the forend that played me a prank...

I have had this problem before but not realizing until now that it was soooo important...

I'm now in limbo if I should take the nice to hold gravelgrip or just deal with it ...I normally always use bipod anyway...

Clarifying... ( to fast to send ....)
I'm thinking.... to take the frontgrip away to
get a more useful rifle in all rest-situations , but I have not decided yet...

A better picture of the front-grip.

Hi Anders it sounds like it is a technique issue not a texture issue if you are only new to shooting off bags. A bi pod will give instant gratification gratification when everything is perfect throw in some in ideal field conditions and things turn to shit. Please keep practicing holding the fore end it will serve you better in the future

Looking at this closer, was only looking on my phone this morning. and thinking more with that grip at the front is there a bit lip underneath like the side? this could be riding up on your bag under recoil and would be interesting to grind this smooth and re test. also what clearance do you have in the barrel channel? contact could be changing harmonics with different hold (overhand with bi pod apposed to fore end grip)

I'm well familiar with bag-rest-shoting and holding the forend , and after reading Nathan's book I've have recused both groups and flyers , a lot 👌

If I shoot the rifle with the orginal plastic Varmintstock I get same good results as with bipod.

The edge of the grip goes all around.

Barrelclearance is huge .. approx 5mm all around in to the bedding .

I will do som test with the gripsurface taped smoth , and if it's works I will take either fillerputty and fill/smooth out the underside and repaint or take the heatgun and remove all the grip and repaint .....

I must test this some more before I deside to wreck my new painting 🐔

I probably take it away...

Here we go...😎
Couldn't resist to leaving som of the grip...😁
But the whole underside of the frontstock will be epoxypainted to high finish .
Get back with results when painted...🔜

Hello again.
Now hav the epoxypaint hardned ,and this is the results....

Then shooting 😎 , all shot at 100m

The "before"-target 🙄

And the "after"-target 😄 5shot groups
The groups are at tad bigger than optimally, but that is due to the tempdifferanse , the load is tuned to aprox -5degree C and now it was +26C....

4shot group .

Small thing's can lead to big differences, is the today's lesson for me 👌
